Default Leda shocks good choice?

I am building a track car and am considering the leda oil/adjustable shocks with 400/600 lb springs. Anybody have any experience with the Leda's? My street car has the Bilstein Eibach setup and i find it kind of soft. Without breaking the bank i want stiff but with good adjustment range It's Leda or Koni's , the Leda's have a **** to adj. and apparently are built to your application and spring rates.

Don't have experience of them (yet) but they sure look good.

There are heading for local '87 S4 to be used mainly on the street. Springs are 600 front and 400 rear. Everything else looks good except perhaps front upper end.

There were no instruction how to mount them but I presume their idea is to leave large spring mount away and only use small shock mount. All the force from spring goes through upper rubber mount that in normal application only sees forces of shock go through it. Question is can it also handle springs force?

As far as we can see it there is no way of using original spring mount with Leda's. Leda's "hat" is too large to correctly fit inside it.

Probably custom rose joint is only option but where can we find one that fits?

Rears use all parts except unnecessary spring plate. Lower cup is off in this picture. Spring force go through same parts as in normal application. Can't see any problems here.

Erkka, you are the man! Awesome pics, will be talking to my supplier on monday. He did mention that they have upper shock mounts avail that they manufacture in house at racers Edge. $495 a set. I was thinking i could fab my own and as i see in your pics, doesn't look to tough. In a racing application i think the more direct the connection the better. I will let you know how it goes.

Contrary to what I wrote earlier old spring mounting rubber can be used in front after all if shock mounting rubber is turned upside down. This way parts combined height lowens just enough for shock to reach through. In fact it fits quite nicely. Only difference to stock configuration is that both spring and shock absorber use large mount when in factory version shock uses small rubber and spring uses larger exlusively. Not really major difference and I don't believe it will cause problems. Using just small rubber probably would and it's not good idea.

Rear with lower cup installed.

Eibach springs look ridiculously small compared to factory parts. Small black metal piece provided by Leda is between spring and upper spring mount in front package. It fits ok in there leaving outer portion of original spring plate useless.

Here's a link to a guy in Sweden building a 928 racer.
Looks like a Leda schock on the pictures with custom built upper mount.

Gotta wonder if he knows what he's doing - he's got 928 in big numerals....under a drawing of a 944!

Ha ha Mark,

have to give him some credit since he has moved from a 924 to a 928 racer.
That is good development in the right direction.
He runs a business selling parts for watercooled Porsches.
All the profit he makes on that is used for his 928 Racer.

Cheers/Peter:
Click on 'Min 928' for the shock mod. I especially liked the gif demonstrating camber movement.

They look little different than Leda's. There is some company in Stockholm that sells Leda's. Maybe they use different springs etc. Or they could be custom Öhlins http://www.ohlins.se or some other brand. Looks very good no matter what they are.

Utzon is not using Leda, he's using Bilstein. Öhlins is a very high perforiming setup I'm not even sure that they have anything for the 928. They cost about 3 times more than my Leda setup.

I've got Leda suspension and I must say that I like it. I haven't driven it on a track yet. Last weekend I did spend some time by adjusting the height on the car. It drives very well, it's firm and much better damped than the Boges shocks (option 474). It's not as comfortable as the stock setup but I like this setup better I believe that it fits the car better. I haven't started to experiment with the dampening yet, all 4 are set in the middle.

As Erkka mentioned, the Eibach springs look tiny compared to the stock springs, and they are a bit lighter too, which is good.

At the end of this month (24 of April) I'll drive at a track, from there I'll be able to tell you more about how the cars feels when driven hard.

You may want to contact Racers Edge in Knoxville TN for the LEDA custom aluminum mounts with spherical bearings. Karl mentioned that they were having additional sets made. Here are pictures of the prototypes which mounted up perfectly.

Erkka when I mounted my front upper mount I thought that the mount was to short. So what I took the upper part of the dustcover and cut that. It's really just a pipe about 20mm long. I placed that pipe above the Leda spring mount.

Lloyd, what I dont understand is the length of that mount that is on the picture. The lower part of the mount has to rest on the damper piston edge. From what I can make out of the pictures is that the stock mount is longer than the custom mounts in the picture. Could you please fill out my blanks here.
