big, Big, BIG NUMBERS!

I think all the competition and debate is what leads people to build monster engines...
If people tell Marc, or Tim, that they can't do something, they will probably do it.
So I am totally in favor of awakening the monsters.
We should probably start hassling you too Jim, so you will build some monster engine!
I don't think you can do it! I don't think you know what you are doing!
And you call yourself one of the big three! How about DR? He needs
to get a proper monster 928 of his own as well... We need to start
hassling him too!
Hahahahahahahaha!!!!
(All kidding here folks...)

I submit I've got the ability to comment on the car as well.

But in the other thread I was referring specifically to the C5 which is a day-and-night difference compared to the C4.
**** engine for high horespower? I dunno .What are you calling high horespower?
I should be making 450-500 at the wheels fairly soon normally aspirated. That's good enough for me.

Just about every engine during the 'golden days' of turbocharged F1 racing had an iron block. The one exception that I know of is the V6 Porsche Tag which had an aluminum block, closed-deck, and nicasil cylinders.
The supercharged 4.6L Ford Cobra is an iron-block, closed-deck; I know the 2003 version are good for a 1000hp from the factory with no internal mods required.
So, not only is the 928 block aluminum and open-decked, but there's not much supporting the cylinders from the bottom. In a high-horsepower application, the tops of the cylinders are waving around like a wheat-field on a windy day. Porsche must have been aware something was amiss since they changed the block configuration on the 968 to siamesed cylinders, although it was still open-decked. Porsche admitted the open-deck was used for ease of manufacturing.
It can be done reliably in a 928, it will just cost quite a bit of $$$$$$ My guess $50K?
By the way, where are the pics of the 928 with the Toyota engine in it?

Lagavullin loves his 928, otherwise he wouldn't be owning and driving and supercharging it. And I don't know him personally, I just have had these arguments with him in the past.

On the other hand though, one of the greatest things regarding 928 ownership are the OUTSTANDING people I've met in a relatively short time. We have a good core team here in the Midwest! And not to mention the 928 brothers on the boards here, even if we do clunk heads together now and then; that's just part of being in a family, and the price to pay for the free exchange of ideas.
Lagavullin, I know you know, posting words like "piece of ****" will upset your 928 brothers. Come on man

That was the prototype intake on a higher compression engine 9by 2 points), same cams, heads, etc.
500 should be easy
Marc
210 mph - verified

But I'd still prefer something that is cheaper to rebuild when it comes to engines of that kind of power. Not to mention, a lot more shops that are willing to work on them, and have a lot of experience making engines with those power levels. In fact, if I was to swap an American engine into the 928, it would probably be one of those Gale Banks Twin Turbo engines...

fabric - ahhh, you mean the "pucker factor"! I once took a 928 owener for a 200 plus mph ride ... then found out he had a pacemaker. He didnt need that day.
Actually, if you are not aware whatis happening, 200 mph in our 928 was just a smooth constant acceleration run .. very comfortable. If you were sleeping, it would not wake you up!
