How old is that belt? I've never seen one that badly deteriorated from time/weather.

It looks like that belt is either the original or it was overheated. I hate to point this out...but when I took my distributor apart one day to see what the belt looked like, it looked much cleaner than that inside. Are you getting water in there somehow?

Which one Heinrich? 85 Euro, 85 us, 86.5, or on one of your two S4 engines?

Shane, that's the recently-acquired Euro S .... '85. I had the whole thing put together and had driven around the block, and suddenly we had glowing cat and .... well, you know ... this is not biggie.

Normy you know this girl went through an 18-month sit after her tbelt almost gave out because the "experts" had installed an S4 tensioner. That is all good now.

and

BTW ..... that car is a BEAST ... dang ... I could not believe the torque. And I know torque

The belt broke while the engine was running? That isn't a biggie? Aren't those engines interference engines?

At least you didn't light the bumper cover on fire like mine did when that little belt broke. My belt didn't look nearly that bad. It just looked like it had worn thin somehow, and was just too thin to hold together anymore.
