Matt, those cat fires are killers. I've seen two of them now and I FEAR being on the road and having one. If that happened I am sure the car would be burnt up completely. They can potentially set fire to the interior through the tub also and then you need to get out and let her burn. Not good, we've had a few of them where the car was severely damaged. Or destroyed.

Ok, I guess I am just slow and not that familiar with the 928 but why would the cat get so hot? Is this just a dumb question?

Matt I feel for you, my S4 is in pieces too. I miss her so......

Tres, the sequence is this:
spark shuts down on four of the cylinders (let's say 1, 5, 3, 7) and those cylinders keep getting raw fuel in and out. Cat now gets 50% burnt gases and 50% raw fuel mixed with nice fresh oxygen ..... what do you think happens in the cat

Tres that's the tiny belt between the two Euro distributors, when one stops turning there's no spark anymore to those cylinders.

Well, I guess you learn something new every day. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I havnt really dug into the timing belt on my car so I dont know what anything down there looks like. The timing belt is one of my next jobs to do.

Mark as you've said, it doesn't matter. All gears are equal. I like to drive around in reverse since you enlightened me, it sure feels no different.
