Default Spanner -announcement (electronic diagnostic unit)

I have been discounting the price of the "Spanner" diagnostic for an introductory period, and for the first few products sold.

The intial quantity discounted has now been well exceeded, thanks to the great support from the 928 community in Europe, USA and Australasia.

At the end of this month, I will cease to give the discount. Any paid up orders received before then will be at the discounted price.

I am also delighted to announce that 928 Specialists will be stocking the Spanner from March. I know they will give you a great service !

Regards

I've been on the 928 Specialists site for ten minutes, and can't seem to find anything except factory tools. Where are the "Tools sections?

Look under "Browse by Parts Type" than "Accessories", then "Tools". Or "Browse by Parts Type" then "Maintenance", then "Tools".

If you you are looking under "Browse By Model Type" you may not see all the tools. For example if you are looking under "80-82 US L-Jet" > "Accessories" > "Tools" you will not see the Spanner because it is not used for those years. I have tried very hard to keep items under the Model Types only for the specific models, tools included.

This has nothing to do with the product, but the word "Spanner" in German can mean "tensioner", or "stalker"...

A 'spanner' is what we colonists refer to as a wrench.

SYLLABICATION: span·ner
PRONUNCIATION:
NOUN: 1. A wrench having a hook, hole, or pin at the end for meshing with a related device on another object. 2. Chiefly British A wrench.
ETYMOLOGY: German, winding tool, from spannen, to stretch, from Middle High German, from Old High German spannan.

You can also just type "Spanner" or "JDS" in the search box, but then you miss seeing all of the other cool tools... with more on the way :-)

I can't get WWW.928GT.COM to load on my computer to find out more about the Spanner (Microsoft Exploder just keeps churning). Would the Spanner be of benefit to the '85S 32V? In a few words, what does it do?

Hi Harvey,
Sorry, there is no diagnostic facility available with the ECUs fitted to your car.

Diagnostics started with MY88, although MY87 928s can easily be made diagnostic.

Any other questions?

Best of luck on this newest endeavour, John - it sounds like a winner!

Thanks Randy,
I've had quite a few orders this week, as the discount offer finishes next Monday. Last orders please, at this price !

Orders after !st March can be placed with 928 Specialists, or direct to me. The price will be the same either way.

I will of course continue with technical support.

My thanks to all those who have purchased a Spanner so far, and also those who have helped with testing and feedback.

The hardware in the Spanner is fully compatable with the Hammer, so with more development and investment in software, it is potentially capable of providing all the functions of the Hammer.

This development will continue when I have recouped some of my development costs through sales.

So, help me to help you :-)

Regards

John,
Can the spanner also read codes for the alarm system on 91+ cars that have the newer processor controlled alarm system with diagnostic capabilitity for the Bosch hammer? Seems as you noted it should be able to electrically over the interface if programed for it?

Now that you mention it... I recall John supposedly going to redo some issues with the spanner, i.e. limited use on 89 and up cars.
What say you John?

When we tried the spammer on my 91 model, it did not complete the whole procedure. At one point there was a mysterious error code - but I don't remember the details.

So all the stalking of the spanner did not do anything to my car.
