Ken, Go out and look at fitting 9011/9012 bulbs - HIR - 65W highs give 75% more light, less heat. Do a search for HIR - they are on Ebay for $30/each.

Another idea for fixed mounting
I have been thinking for some time on how it would look really cool if one made a glass "dome" whose contours were distorted to fit the fenders, such that you'd get kind of a bugeyed effect. The top of the dome could be no more than 2 inches above flush, but the resulting shape would be somewhat reminiscent of other Porsches, and allow more verticle clearance so you could fit a larger reflector within.
How one would fabricate such a thing is beyond me, and in the quantities that would be realistic, the costs would doubtless be very unreasonable...

"I'll be driving it back across the country all next week"
If it has sealed beams, unless you're only driving during the day, spend the $100 to get a set of 7" Hella H4s. Great bang for the buck. A world better than sealed beams, even if not as good as is possible today with modern equipment and big $$.
Ask me how I know.

Thaddeus:
About 2 years ago, Jager engineering had "Photoshopped" exactly that - it looked great. As good as Jager obviously is at fabricating or designing things for fabrication, he apparently abandoned the idea. I do not know why, but I suspect getting the parts done economically was not feasible. I hope that idea can get resurected. It would be a nice mod that would improve the overall look and get rid of a lot of machinery.
