First off, I meant that as lighthearted teasing, but your response prompted me to think about how I really feel about this.
The facility was called Sears Point from its inception and first SCCA event in 1968 until mid-June 2002. At that time Infineon made a $ deal to use the name and showcase their communication technologies at the track. This kind of selling out just bugs me. First Charlotte Superspeedway was renamed the Lowe's Superspeedway. Then Sears Point was renamed. I think Laguna Seca has some stupid Mazda name now that nobody uses. The historic Candlestick Park in SF sold out it's name and reappeared as 3Com park. Maybe some people would blow it off as "that's just business". But how much is too much? For my taste, we've passed that point. What will it take for others to find it disturbing? How about if we name the big red bridge between San Francisco and Marin the Coca-Cola bridge? That big statue in New York could become the Statue of Liberty Mutual Insurance. Over in Atlanta you have the Riverfront Field renamed to Cinergy Field. How would it be if Augusta National Golf Club were renamed "Nike National Golf Club" or "Tiger Woods National Golf Club".
I have nothing whatsoever against the companies mentioned.... I'm just grumbling about the name changes. What it is, is some marketing jockey forcing me to say something that I have no good reason to say. And it bugs me.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack. Dennis, I loved watching that vid. Can't wait to see you get your tranny back together and tear it up some more.
