Has anyone ever been killed in a 928?

It seems the 928 was a very safe vehicle for its time (still is today), the simple numbers say that someone somewhere had to be involved in a bad collision that could cause serious injuries (fatal is serious).....The high speeds in these cars also might contribute to injuries?
Heres another ? Does anyone know of any seriously damaged 928's from open road or track racing? I think Mark K totalled one? (not sure) + a few others too?

I hope that's not a premonition.

Uday Hussein had a nice 928 that was bullet-riddled. But he lived, kinda. Wish I had what was left of his car. His old man had a nice 928 also...plus a few other goodies.
My dad got his non-928-car shot up once running a Union picket line where he worked and the holes (in the car) were pretty easily repaired. That was back when they put thicker metal in cars so he was safe.
Does anyone know what's going to happen to Hussein's cars? Could bring some good money on the auction block for museums, etc.

The last 89 GT with only (7800 miles on it) I parted out looked just like that photo, but WORSE! The owner was relatively unharmed and so impressed he immediately when down to the Porsche dealer and bought a 90GT.
..and yes, he wrapped it around a tree too!

I remember a 928 fatality, back before I had my 928. It was on the Sepulveda pass, going from LA to the Valley.
The road was wet, and a 928 had stopped due to some obstruction in the road.
Apparently it got rear-ended really hard, and had a fuel leak and a fire.
Apparently the person in the 928 did not get out, and burned.
My room-mate drove by the scene on his way to work.
He said it was a 928, but neither of us was a 928 expert at the time.
So it could have been a 944, etc...
But that story still makes me want to get a fuel cel!
And regarding the 928 with the side damage, it reminds me of a
story of an Audi, that was circulating the internet recently.
It was a series of pictures of an Audi that had gone off
the freeway, and hit a tree. The car was in many pieces,
as well as the occupants. So considering that is considered
a pretty safe new model car, with tons of airbags, etc,
it still came apart when it hit a big tree. So the fact that
the 928 stayed in one piece, tells me that it may be
stronger than the Audi. It still might not save you,
but you'd stand a better chance than if the car
comes apart like that Audi did...

I do not know of any fatalities in a 928 but have heard a couple remarkable survivor stories of some pretty bad wrecks in them.
I heard about the one DR mentioned. I knew the salesman who sold the guy both cars.
Michael Willhoit
(just saying the name is sure to draw fire) and his wife survived a head on collision while driving a 928 (1980 model I think). They were on the freeway at night when they were hit head on by a drunk driver at speed driving without his headlights GOING THE WRONG WAY on the interstate! So if you ever wonder why he has such an affinity for the car, now you know. I have a copy of the newspaper article about the crash.
I also heard a story about the making of one of the Cannonball Run movies where they needed a car that could withstand a monster truck driving over it with occupants in the car and nut crush them. Because of the 928s shape it is the only sports car they could find where the passenger cabin stayed in tact.

I heard that the story on the Cannonball Run 2 shoot, was that they wanted to crush the 928, but the car would not crush when the truck drove up onto it. So they had to pre-cut the roof to aid the collapse... Same moral of the story... The 928 is strong!

There's a picture of a bullet-ridden 928 out there somewhere. Not sure of the story behind the picture, but I'm guessing whatever happened was serious.
saw that but did not see any blood. 928 is sure a strong beast. certainly nobody famous got killed in one
