Well, you knew what I was talking about at least huh?
So I ordered a couple of new ones, the doors just sort of flop around now.
Do I have to pull the door panel off to replace these?
Is there another trick for this?
Thanks as always.

Did you buy Porsche OEM parts or Jager?
If Jager you do not have to remove the panle - don't know about the OEM ones.
Best,
Roger

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

I got OEM. I didn't know Jager made one. I will check that web site.
They are only a few bucks from 928Intl but can't find a good picture of the install.

Yep.
>Is there another trick for this?
Not that I know of, if you come up with one please share.
FYI, as I said in the similar thread a few days ago Jeannie replaced them on one of our 928s in about 30 minutes per side and that was the first time she had ever removed a 928 door panel. In all fairness she did have a "decent" coach directing her:-)
Sort of a funny story, a few years ago she had been complaining about the door closing on her and kept asking me to change them. I was pretty busy with another project and after the 3rd or 4th "request" over a few weeks I told her to go change the #&@!@^ things herself. She said OK, tell me know... an hour later she was done.
I have been trying to get those dang doors to close ever since....
JUST JOKING!!!

Jager make a pair of titanium strips that fit with very little work.
I fitted one to the passenger door on my GTS about two years ago and it did the job perfectly and still works fine now.

I bought a Door Stay about two years ago. I was amazed at how tight it was; The original stay, the part mounted on the door frame, was broken by the ******* PO. I replaced both parts...and then the sound effects started! The part I was missing was the pin. I installed a bolt from my "bolt collection bin" which was slightly smaller since it was a damn non-metric part. This caused the bolts holding the door-frame part to foul, and now the permanently-mounted threaded bolt that Porsche welded to the frame is essentially stripped. I'm about to buy a tap so that I can tap this out to a slightly larger size and use a larger bolt...but the thing that amazes me is HOW TOUGH the nylon door holder parts are on the door stay; They are soooo tight that the wide spots on the stay rod destroyed the original bolt! I guess the stay is supposed to "break in", and the loose nature of my door mounted part created all the problems.
Hmmph!
Oh well....another project on the list of many!
To replace these, you probably need to remove the door panel. This isn't anywhere near as bad as it sounds- there are five 10 mm bolts that you need to remove, a tiny screw that holds the handle surround, pull the center panel away with your fingers, a screw that holds the lock **** [pry the cover off with a tiny screwdriver], and a pair of fish-hook removal pliers can remove the surround around the lock ****- open them up and insert them in the cuts and use them to turn the whole thing]. Then just use your fingers to pull the thing away from the door- the holders just snap on and snap off when you pull. Be gentle- the door panel is made of wood.
You'll need an Allen driver for your socket to remove the door frame part. I think they are 8 mm...but I can't remember. If you have any trouble, PM me and I'll look at my car/tool set and see what I did. It isn't that bad of a job- trust me. A Corona is another good tool to have at hand...

jayc67,
I purchased a pair of the Jager titanium items and it took about 20 minutes to do the job. You do not need to pull any panels for those items, but watch yourself... they have sharp edges on them. I sliced up one finger and that probably added about 5 minutes to the overall installation.
Now, it actually takes an effort to close the door. Its either feast or famine!
