Default 996 for 928 GTS

Since the value of 996s have dropped due to the release of 997s, RMS problems, funny headlights, etc. The value of a 99 to 01 996 is around the same as a GTS in similar condition and equipped as close to the same as a GTS can be relative to the 996.

I really do have the shark bug as a daily driver, but can't afford to keep the 996 and buy a GTS, especially if we keep our two ragtops. How many 928 owners would, in my shoes, sell the 996 to buy a GTS. And to ask a more interesting way, not to put anyone on the spot...just curiosity...how many GTS owners would trade their car for an 00 996 with PSM, litronics, full leather, Tiptronic S, enough options to reach an 87k sticker in 2000 , and no RMS or other failure issues ever, fully documented dealer maintained.

I've got a '93 GTS. Sorry, I wouldn't trade.

I like the 996. But give my shark for one? That would take a lot of convincing...

Unlike the 996, they only made a few GTS'es, so you only have a few GTS RENNLIST posters here too.

I think you would be hard pressed to find any GTS owner wanting to trade down...sorry, but that is the truth from our persepctive. If you are lucky enough to get a GTS, you will soon agree.

I wasn't expecting anyone to actually want to trade from the small group of Rennlist GTS owners. It was more of an indirect poll. I was pretty sure I knew the answer based on what I've read on this forum. There is a 93 GTS for sale by an owner near Atlanta. The color doesn't do much for me, green with 90k miles, but he's asking 33k for it. I could easily sell my 996 for more than enough to buy that one, although I doubt I will...green is just not something I would want for very long I don't think. I could also sell my 968 and probably be able to swing the difference. I'm just trying to decide if that's what I really want to do, or just buy an S4 and keep everything else.

You must remember that even though an 00' 996 is worth about the same as a early GTS now, it will be worth less in the near future....

It depends on shade of green. 22S Signal Green or 82N Mint Green wouldn't be my first choice. Nor would 22L Oak Green metallic for that matter but one must take what's available.

What green is it? http://www.landsharkoz.com/htm/sc/colourblue.htm

Is car listed in Chuck's registry? http://www.928registry.org/1993-928G...sting-page.htm

HEY! Another green owner here - like Erkka said, you must specify which green it is. We bought our '85 specifically because it was crystal green.

I didn't mean to insult any green car owners. In fact, green is my wife's favorite color so she would be easy to convince, and it is one of the more desirable greens IMO, moss green I think, but it also has double the mileage of my 996. I did buy a green car once, a 74 260Z. It was one of the worst cars I ever had, though being green had nothing to do with it, green cars always remind me of getting stranded on the way to work. The 74 Zs may have been the worse year ever built. I ended up trading it for my first Porsche...a 914.

I am having a hard time grasping the difference in price from a late S4 or GT compard to a GTS. I haven't driven all of them, so I can't have an informed opinion at this point.
We have 6 vehicles total and I don't have anywhere to park another one, so something has to go. In searching the various classifieds, I ran across a wide body 928. It appeared to be pretty rough. What's the story on those?

No problem dude, there are definitly some ugly green cars out there. I wish I could help you on the wide bodied cars. There is a guy in our 928 club that has a gambolla it is a 85 Euro car that is in pretty good condition but the only 928 that I driven was a 86.5 auto which was gutless. Before any of you chime in I heard that it was that car in particular, and my 83 Euro which is no sloutch in its own right. Get in them and drive, and you would be the best critic for you, driving style etc.

My personal opinion is that you should seek out just the right 928 for your tastes. Look for what you want as far as color, options, trans type, mileage, documentation, etc.... That way you have a car that you truly want. And if it's the right car, you WILL truly want it, and will want to drive it probably more than any car you've ever owned. Just my 2 cents.

if you had a GT3 or 2 or mbe a TT then youd surely have some interested parties to negotiate, maybe even a very nice 993? i think the base 996 is very similar in concept to the S4 cars, as a sporting GT only now the 928 is more rare. i would keep my 928 and get a 911 as well.
