Got a ticket
Alright here's the hoopla. I was playing with this G35. I am afraid to say I had him all the way
. Trooper was in the fast lane of course screwing up traffic as those ******** always do. Well I had a long break in the slow lane so I was exploiting it to the fullest
. Honestly if I was not doing a ____ I was dam near close to it. I caught him right in the corner of my eye (12:20am) but by then it was way over for me. Of course they take their time to make you feel you got away with but I knew better. I rocketed past him so I new I was toast. Anyway, He said "We were doing 70 when you flew past us. Any reason why you were going over the posted 65". I looked at him and handed him my credentials. I said nothing. Now I got a ticket that states 70+ in a 65 for estimated speed. So where do I stand on this. I'm going to fight it. I hope I have a leg to stand on.
I would just like to add that this was after a 16.5 hr lunchless day.

After reading the above - and rolling on the floor sharing your reporting style
, I can only think of one defense if you challenge this in court. The Trooper likely had you dead solid at a 'buck' - and wrote you up for 70. You can then assume that he either had a soft heart for 928s, or is a technical moron who can't count. Pick on the last point ....
Your defense case is to argue that the citation is technically flawed and must be tossed out of court: the flaw? - well, you can prove that you were doing a 'buck', and are prepared to restage the event with video back up: consequently, the citation is in error and technically invalid ...and bears insufficient merit to stand before this court ..
Try it anyway, for it's a sure loser to argue you were doing less than 70. By taking a strong offence ..." Your honor, I was going much faster than that ....", you may establish a mind boggling win, and a jurisprudence that will help us all.
If you think the odds are against you, cheer up - remember OJ and the 'glove'.
Otherwise, should you choose to not follow this somewhat unique strategy, I'd continue to have lunchless days - and save the lunch money for the fine ..
If it's the points and not the bucks that concern you, hire a lawyer and get the charge knocked down to a lessor infraction and lower or no points. I had a similar occurance in VA and my lawyer got it knocked down from reckless driving(+19 miles over the speed limit) to something like failure to obey posted speed limit. Cost me money but saved a few points on my license.

Joe--
You could just count your blessings and pay the ticket. It will keep your karma good, among other things. Many moons ago I got a ticket for 70 in a 55 (then the max speed) while testing the longer-term effects of positive manifold pressure. About 135, and the officer had to admit that he lost sight of me a few times during his "pursuit". I didn't see him 'til a long while after I slowed down, never knew he was even back there. Anyway, the ticket was cheap, the story priceless.
How often do we casually or not-so-casually blow through the speed limit, and never get punished? I admit to over three times in my life. Looking back, I deserved a lot more punishment than I ever received. You got off way easy with just a 70+ ticket, considering that the car could be impounded, you'd be calling bail guys and attorneys right now, and the minimum charges would be reckless, speeding at 100+, and assault on a police officer just for looking at him wrong. The cop did you a favor. Return the favor and pay the ticket. I want that guy to still be in a good mood when he sees me blow by...

Joe . . . Bob is right. Suck it up this time and pay the ticket. You got off easy and we all know it. Doing it the hard way may cause this to come full circle. And you don't want/need that. Keep the karma flowing. May the force be with you.

consider yourself lucky that he didnt write you for excessive speed or for 100 mph+ ! Traffic school is what I would be looking for. Whats one day out of your ife to save you $$ on insurance costs.
Joe
How many lanes of traffic were there?....assuming the CHP was going 70 with a solid wall of cars behind him and at least one lane of same speed cars to his right (say the middle lane) and you come flying by in the slow lane....if you did not get substantially in front of him (say you hit your brakes right away) I don't think he could get a radar lock on you (did he say he had radar?) So at best he "estimated" your speed...you "might" be able to fight it....HOWEVER he knew this, that why he wrote you for only 70 in a 55 (a fairly minor ticket) So you might be able to go to traffic school (which is your best option)...if he had a lock on you at 100+ he would have cited you for 100+..
One more thought, you did exactly the right thing by not saying how fast you were going (not saying anything is good too..just yes or no answers at best) IF you said "I was going 110" I guarantee you most ***** CHP officers would write you for whatever you state and just document it in the report! Good move on that one!

Pay the fine and court costs, take traffic school so you don't get the points (assuming CA still does this, they used to in the good old days) and thank your lucky stars you weren't caught on radar.
I once got caught for 57 in a 45 zone....
I got clocked at 57.
In my defense, I was pretty stupid. It was a night the Huskers lost their bowl game; streets dead, but local LE had been prepared for lots of drunken horn-honking...that's what you get for not having a pro team in the state. I swear, sometimes husker fever is just that, a virus, that's the only explanation I can see why people become rabid over our college team barely two years after moving to the state...or to Texas sometimes, I've been told.
"I'm a husker!"
"You didn't even go to Nebraska!"
"But I live in the state!"
"You lived in Chadron for two weeks, and you've never even f
ing set foot in Lincoln!"
Oh, sorry, where was I?
Yeah, lets just say I now have a great appreciation of the 928's brakes.

Joe,
I know for a fact there are troopers in the OC who love the 928 Porsche and have given a few drivers huge breaks. Also being somewhat older than the average ricer and prob not driving wrecklessly saved you as well.

I highly doubt he gunned me. Happened to fast and we hit a series of quick turns. The real funny thing is I didn't (want to) hit my brakes. I wanted to slowly blend into traffic. I let momemntum slow me down. And momentum was real slowabout it. It took a few seconds just to get under 80. Needless to say blending didn't happen. What does that mean 70+ in a 65. Will they calculate the fine for only 70 or does that have some special meaning?
