Spare tire lockdown apparatus...
Would any one have a picture of the spare lockdown bolt and plate? My 928 does not have anything there. Do you know if one from a 944 or other models are compatable?...I'm just trying to find the small bits and pieces that are missing and get this 928 back to original. Oh....one more question. I kept the jack from my 84 but I had no tire iron...what does it look like and is one from another model compatable...Thanks all....

Bill 84... for holddown, I use a hex bolt, M10-1.5 x 30mm long,
thru the metal plate in the spare center into the (bottom)boss.
With wave & flat washers under the (17mm) head it works fine.
Less than $1 total.
G'luck.

I don't know about you guys, but my spare fits so dang tightly in its receptacle I wouldn't have to bolt it down at all. It ain't goin' anywhere!
In fact, if I ever take it out of its hole, I gotta use Vaseline, a shoe horn, elbow grease, and a fair percentage of my emergency vocabulary to get it back in!

PET shows the washer and bolt on Illustration #601-00. The washer is 477 813 157 and the bolt is shown as an M10, either 25mm (older) or 45mm (newer) long depending on MY. The washer is U$20 at 928 Intl.. The washer is actually a stamped sheet metal piece with a ridge that fits the large central hole in the rim, and has a slotted hole in the centre.

If you remove the spare, the cover won't fit flush with the rear deck. I carry the spare just for this purpose alone. I leave the jack at home cause most flats allow pumping the tire enough to get to a tire service station.
The rattle is due to the rim being suspended inside the tire. Even with the factory installed wheel well pads, going over a bump in the road causes the rim to rattle to the body.

Anthony...Which way are you laying the spare in the hold...I place mine with the face of the rim down but if I have the face up I have the same issues you described. It is a pretty tight fit just as BIGS has said, and he is right, it doesn't move around.....

Mine is face down to hold the jack, compressor and other various "spares" I have stored there. My carpet/deckmat looks out of place being so much higher on the spare side and I can't secure the cover. It is a tight fit and doesn't rattle, but (God forbid) a roll over can be very violent and the spare could become a missle.

You are right Anthony, could be a real bad thing. I can't remember on my machine if there is any padding fixed to the floor of the cavity for a cushion effect. It seems to me that there are three or four thin foam pads there for dampening. Maybe yours are thicker than the later years and that is causing your problem. It has me stumped ....Good-luck
