Default I finally got my 928

Hi All -

I bought Scott Mohr's 86.5 Meteor Metallic over black A/T about 2 weeks ago. I drove it from mid-PA back to my parents place in NJ through a huge downpour and then back up here to Boston just before all the snow. I'm quite happy with it, and it was great to meet Scott and see his collection of 928s and his Lotus. He's a good guy and I look forward to being a part of the 928 "family." I haven't done much besides show it to my friends since I got back, because I was studying for the GREs, but now I've taken them and I can start playing around a bit. The car is in great shape and has a good service history with 150k. There are only a couple small cracks in the dash, and the interior is good. The driver’s seat has a small hole and also needs die where my left elbow contacts the bolster (which I know is common).

The things I’ll be working on include re-soldering the cruise brain, changing the transmission fluid, and one side valve cover gasket that Scott couldn’t do because of some dried up hoses (I’ll also need those - I think Scott’s up for helping with that project when I’m back down in the NJ/PA area), shining up the keyhole cover thingies, maybe looking at the alarm and/or central locking system at some point, cleaning up the sun roof mechanism to speed up its travel, maybe replacing some bulbs in the pod (has anyone looked into replacing any of the 928 lighting with L.E.D.s?), replacing the flaking “928” insignia on the rear, getting those little stickers for the console switches from Jager, getting the hatch release mechanism aligned properly, replacing the factory speakers, and once all that is done, I’ll think about the second string priorities like an RMB, any suspension ideas and maybe a fancy steering wheel and shifter handle.

BUT FIRST THINGS LAST! I'll start with...

Outdoor car cover. I have it in the parking garage at work now, but it will be outside a lot. Can anyone compare the "Noah" cover to the Porsche one from 928 Specialists? or any other?

I also need a tail light bulb (although it sounds like I should change both at the same time. It might also just need to be cleaned up), some touch up paint, polish for the wheels (flat slotted type), and whatever is the generally agreed upon best stuff for all the black plastic and rubber bits.

If anyone has a passenger side rear lens, or the little plastic **** for the armrest box in the door, or a black glove compartment door (mine has just a little bit of a warp), I'm on the lookout.

I know from talking to you Rennlisters that my next job is to post some pictures and join Rennlist as a member. I will do both. By the way, what will I be able to do with my membership that I can’t do now?

Alright, that’s the beginning.

Congrats! Welcome to the club. It's very addictive. Next order of business is to become a Rennlist member. The knowledge you will gain here is priceless. Well worth it, this site rocks! Considering where you live read the bottom of my signature. Take care.

Welcome to the addiction. If you become a member you get a Rennlist sticker for your car, a few Rennlist cards to hand out and more help with any questions you may have in the future. I found that before I became a member some Rennlisters were reluctant to help out a "registered user". It's well worth the money and you do help keep the site up and running. Nice choice of car. I have a 86.5 AT also. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm not an expert but I have learned a lot about the car in the past two years I've owned it. Do you have the workshop manuals or CD? If not you need to get them ASAP.

Good Luck!

Congratulations! I bought my 928 two months ago. The best car I've ever had (or ever will).

Welcome to the "Tank."

Looks like you have the next several weekends booked with some fun Shark wrenching. Congrats on the new purchase.

Hi GW,
Congrats and welcome the the 928 World!

>Outdoor car cover. I have it in the parking garage at work now, but it will be outside a lot. Can >anyone compare the "Noah" cover to the Porsche one from 928 Specialists? or any other?

FYI, we sell both the Noah and the Porsche Cover, quite frankly I prefer the Noah version and that is the only one I will use when my 928s are outside. I have 3 of them that are well over 5 years old and I use them on a daily basis. From my experience the "nylon" Porsche cover actually lightly scratches the paint on my 928s when I installed or removed them. Something about the way the edges are bound with the raw edges of the nylon brushing against the paint as it rubs against it.. This was especially noticeable on my black car. The Noah fabric is softer and does not have this negative effect. For many years I refused to sell the Porsche covers, but some customers have demanded it because of the "Porsche" name, even after my warnings.

Now if you ever want an Indoor cover, the Cotton/Flannel one we sell is the softest cover you will ever find, it actually "polishes" the paint when you install/remove it.

Hope that gives you a little insight to help with your decision and once again CONGRATS!

GW, I second D.R's comments about the Noah cover. I've used them for years. Not only are they soft and breathable they are also padded (a bit) and offer some minimal protection against bumps and scrapes.

One thing though - you never cover a dirty car with a cover. Or a clean car with a dirty cover. The good thing about the Noah covers is that you can wash them in commercial washers. I wash mine about once or twice per year. Keep a bottle of Speed Shine or Final Inspection and some clean 100% cotton towels in the car. Use those materials to get dust and minor dirt off the car before you cover.

I'm glad you got a good 928; No more dragging me around to look at doggy 928s

Congrats and welcome! You'll make the cost of the membership back with your first upgrade or repair. Fantastic info here. Just got mine 3 months ago and love it too!

See you on the boards!
