Default Anybody sell light-weight alternators or starters for 928's?

The questions says it all...

I want to start lightening Sharky without changing the function or character of the car too much... i.e., I like having 4 seats, a/c, etc...

Lighter battery is in the works... any other objects that can be placed on a diet?

Stan Shaw has a lightweight alternator listed in his 928 Racing.net Store for $175

http://www.excell.net/Merchant2/merc...t_Code=Alt_Lwt

We can also get the 88 Club Sport M637 Alternator and 50AH Battery, but since they are Genuine Porsche, they "ain't" cheap. Details are on our website.

I would recommend Stan's version.

We offer the lightweight high torque starter for $249 it is a gear reduction unit with a smaller motor and yes it sounds like a Honda or old Chrysler starter a much higher tone of a fast little motor.

8.5 mini - outputs about 50 amps, weighs 8.5 lbs. On sale now for CHEAP.

Will not power a stock S4. Need a minimum of about 70 amps for s stock 928. the cs alt is a 90 amp unit.

I have one of the lightweight starters too, as well as the 14lb sealed lead acid battery. both work great and have been using them for several years now. the battery is awesome, but you have to pay attention to running the radio when you work on the car. after 45min, you are ok, but an hour of stereo at a loud setting, makes the car barely start. any longer, and you get the "click click click".

I know the car only takes about 10amps to keep running, why do you need an alternator that puts out 70 ams on the S4???? even with the fans running, it only goest to about 45amps as a draw.
I was thinking of a lightweight alternator, but i wonder how much weight there really is to be saved?
what does an alternator weigh, 17lbs or something ? I wonder if the racing alternator is worth it. saving 10-12lbs, but then you have to always keep the rpms above 1500 to get any charge at all! (from that web link for alternators) Marc, is this really the issue on the S4?
