Default Any estimates on this one ? GT

Surfing around I came across this GT with a burned nose. The ad said that the engine was undamaged. Haven't seen the car yet, but does anyone think the heat on the frontend may have made this a lost case.

Really tempted, maybe take some parts of my S4..

I have seen allot of burnt ones over at marks (928 intl )...that one doesn't look that bad but still needs fenders, nose, hood and who know how much under the bonnet.

For the right price, it could be a great project. You can et front wings cheaply, or fix the Aluminium. A nose spoiler from S4's are also readily available..

The electronics and AC items should not be too difficult, along with vacuum lines, injector harness, and some wires and rubber bits.. You'd have to do the TB anyway, but if it ran then I would say it's even better...

Asking price is € 4500 . Don't know what that comes to in dollars, something like 6000 USD I think. The adagio that 928s don't make good fixer-uppers sings in the back of my mind. Even got a stash of bills to prove it

It has sometimes happened where someone breaks a timing belt and scrambles the valves ....and then the car happens to catch on fire and gets sold to the insurance company. The cost of new wiring for the engine, front end ,injection and new cooling fans, radiator adds up very quickly the car needs to be very inexpensive and your time not valued very highly for it to make sense financially.

Every car can be a good fixer, it depends on the price and how well you know what you are getting into...

4.500 Euro is about 6,000 USD, correct. You would need to see the car in person, and inspect it very well to see what small parts are broken.... That's why I said if the car runs it could be a bargain.. That would make a screaming Track Car... It's a 5spd, and likely has LSD, if the fire did not burn the TB, and the motor runs, the engine alone is worth a good bit... If it were in CA, I would be all over it to inspect.... The key will be in a very thorough inspection.....

Look to see where the fire started, and how it spread in the front.. That will help to make the decision.. Also ask for the records if any..... Get some history...

I would love to find something like that.... Actually, I just lost a deal on a modified 84 wit 90 GT drivetrain... I could kick myself....

Well, just spoke to the owner who told me that he had just bought a spare car and intended to rebuild it himself. The fire was caused by a gasoline leak he said btw. Wouldn't have thought it would burn the way it did than. Anyway the dilemma is gone. I'll look for another one

There is a fuel line that crosses over between the rails at the front of the engine, and it is subject to chafing on the oil filler housing, so this could be legit. I replaced mine when a small divot could be seen in the hose ay about 100K miles before there was any opportunity to leak. There are several fittings and an accumulator in that line as well that could leak.
