Help with interior air temp sensor
This weekend I'm going to perform timing belt surgery on my S-4 and also want to chnage out the cracked interior air temp sensor located in the middle of the dash. Anyone have any hints to help me in changing the sensor? It's that little roung thing with the slots.

The hardest part is removing the Center Console, check Greg Nichols Tips Site for some great Instructions www.nichols.nu/tips.htm. Once the Console is out the sensor is very easy to replace, just a few screws, connectors and cable ties.

I presume just the exposed plastic piece is broken. That is common due to expansion and contraction of the dash fracturing the ring that is tightly held and pressed into the dash surface by a strong tirewrap clamp behind the dash. The part is over $50 since the exposed plastic piece does not separate from the rest of the temp sensor device.
I replaced mine. PITA. Subsequently a clever engineer and 928er, Paul Jager, came to the rescue and developed an inexpensive, thin, black-coated aluminim button cut to look exactly like the eschucheon you want to replace, only new and unfracturered. Sticks right on top of the fractured piece and discreetly hides it. Looks perfectly original. You're done in a few minutes.
I was going to link to the item on Paul Jager's website at http://www.jageng.com but the site appears to be offline, I trust temporarily.
