Matt, you are SO very correct. A good attitude goes a LONG way when the blue lights come on! Think about it everybody. Does anyone like to go in a store, a restaurant, a dry cleaners, any public place and be treated like an ***? Same goes on the side of the road. Not to say that being polite solves everything, but it can't hurt. Then there is option 2, do like Heinrich and obey the laws, or put it on the track. The temptation is always there granted, but why take the chance? Anyway, it's usually the folks that aren't used to triple digit speeds that cause most problems anyway. Okay, I'm stepping down from the soapbox now.

I am a firm believer in the need for police and think that they have a very hard job which they are extremely underpaid for but............they should be allowed to do their job, not revenue collection.

I agree with Ron 120%! Revenue collection has gotten way out of hand. We have a city officer that frequently drives by our shop looking for parking infractions. He stopped by the other day and tried to impound a race prepped 911 that I had pulled around the front while we moved cars around. It was currently registered for street use but not insured. (according to his computer) It took a couple of calls to some low friends in high places to get him to back off. BTW, it was insured! This same officer gave me a ticket for parking 2" on the sidewalk in front of my own shop on Thanksgiving morning! He gave Garrity a ticket for parking at an angle and on the sidewalk, same day! There was no one else parked on the block at all.
There was a crackhead neighbor parked across the street, on the sidewalk pointing in the wrong direction for two weeks that didn't get a ticket! Ok, here I have a problem. It turns out that he writes more parking tickets than the rest of the South Salt Lake City force combined. I think he does it to keep busy in case something dangerous may come up, he's already busy.

I actually worked for a county sheriff's dept for a couple of years in communications and they wanted me to become an officer, told them "No way in hell!".

I fight any ticket I see as unfair(most of them). I won't get into it much further but this is a lifelong fight I have. I have a perfect driving record as far as accidents, 0 accidents, 0 insurance claims ever in my life (I'm almost 42 years old, raced all my adult life!) but I'm seen as an unsafe driver due to excessive speed? Being single and owning a Porsche doesn't help either. Who is it that makes these decisions?

Don't get me started!

I feel pretty much the same as you do Dave. What sucks is how much influence the insurance companies have. What SHOULD be a crime is the premium that they charge to insure high line vehicles. While I do understand that a 16 year old in a muscle car is an accident waiting to happen, why penalize even them for mistakes that they haven't made? I found a great deal on a 1987 Corvette in 1989. The car only had 6,000 miles on it and the guy was a regular at the business where I worked at the time. It was black with red leather and gorgeous! I always told him that I wanted first crack at buying it should he ever get ready to part with it. Then one day he walks in, tells me he is getting divorced and offers me the car for $10,000. I almost fainted. I called my banker, got the cash lined up and called the insurance company. I was quoted an annual premium of $3100!!!!! This figured to be $30 more per month than the payment was going to be. This mind you with 0 tickets and 0 claims. NOW who is collecting revenue??? Dave I also feel your pain on the butthole local you have on your hands there. It seems like you may be his pet project. Oh well, best of luck with that situation.
