The outer pod cover is the same. The light and "bucket" with adjusters is mounted to a vertical fork with two bolts and a plastic ball & socket at the bottom. Unplug, remove the two bolts, unsnap the ball, toss old unit. As they say, "reassembly is the reverse". My outer pod covers look different because I put a nicer set on, but they are all the same in all dimensions.

As they say, to each his own....

I just happen to like the 7" on my 82 with the rings painted the same color. As for the GTS, I went with some chrome/silver accents and it looks damn good. The soon to be mounted 18" rims will be chrome as well.

You can get a nice used set of 8" H5s for $250 or so. 8" H4s wll be around $400+

Personally, those trim rings tick me off - it's the only piece of chrome trim on the entire car (US versions only).

Well... except for the ring around the lock cylinders on early cars... but I get your point.

The 7" lights are the same as on any other car with round headlights... IMHO, the 8" units are more "uniquely Porsche", but as Keith points out... to each his own.

Did some one say CHROME? I don't think it looks too bad on an OB - very classic - but needs the door windows done too.

Am I missing something or is this '81 as good a deal as it appears? Of course there are the "hidden issues" always, but a PPI should flush those out. For a driver, this seems to be a reasonable deal. OK, paint the chrome trim if necessary; just a Saturday afternoon. Hey, anyone want a Wolfsburg edition Rabbit? I could make it to Visalia in a about two or three hours.

Hey wait, is it me or are the tires on backwards on that 81???? The treads funnel to the center than to the sides.

I don't think silver trim would look bad on the silver car, but don't polish it. Satin chrome wouldn't look bad. I actually like the look of the 7" headlights even though I don't like the ring and hate polished chrome. The 8" lights just look funny sticking out of the housing like that. The 7" lights have more of a slim contoured look. Painting the rings silver on a silver car would give it a classic look.

Quick Reply: Chrome??
