Default Looking for a 928, any help appreciated.

Hello all, I am starting to look for a nice 928. I had a 1983 years ago and loved it. I would like to find a 1983 or newer and will look into supercharging. I want an automatic and have color preferences. Price up to $16,000 for late model but $10k to $12k is preferred price range or would buy older and supercharge as I think I will supercharge eventually regardless of year.

1983 or later -- prefer at least 86.5 or GT.
Must have maintenance records for at least the last 40k miles or 4 years and be verifyable and must pass a PPI.
Prefer <100k miles, but mileage is as important as maintenance record
Never wrecked. Clean title.
Automatic transmission
Prefer black, blue, or dark exterior (will consider other colors).
Prefer tan or grey or white interior
I am located in Indiana
Prefer 3 or less past owners.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

'If' you could swing $20k this may be the deal of 2005

Seems a bit low but only a PIP will tell.

I'm not looking for the same year 928 as Wrecktech is, I'm looking for an 1988 or newer. Any leads on a excellent or near-pristine, low-mileage example would be appreciated. I live in the Northwest. Thank you.

Why the hell does he need a $2k deposit on auction end, and all the rest within 5 days? Most people can't move money that fast. Plus, 2k non-refundable before you even get a chance to make sure the car is not misrepresented? No thank you. I wouldn't touch that auction.

Wreck, My brother has a very nice 87 S4 for sale. I bunch of work done including a TB/WP and completely and totally rebuilt trans all within a few months. I think he might even have it listed in the classifieds section. I am sure he will chime in at some point.

Just a quick plug for jserio's brother (styln928), you couldn't find a nicer guy to deal with. We talked for a while about making a deal for his Euro, guys like him are what make Porsche ownership so great. Good luck in your search.

Ew, that is a flashing red warning light. A non-refundable deposit is bad idea or a scam and would seriously hamper my interest unless I was local and could see the car before the end of the auction. Although deposits and payment time limits are traditional on eBay, this is pushing it. There must be time for inspection. Also, it would be best to escrow the deposit. When I bought my 89 on eBay I got to know the seller very well during the auction and when it came time to close the deal he didn't demand the deposit and allowed me time to come inspect the car before I handed over a dime.

Good catch.

I am probably going to be selling my '89 a/t soon and just have the '87 5 speed I bought recently. It is black interior though, not what was being looked for. I would say int/ext are 9 out of 10. 130K miles, it's worth maybe $12-14K.
I have probably $19K into it now. It's only money.

Hi Wrecktech,
I have an 89 S4 ATM Black/Black that I am currently working on.
I will be selling it fairly soon.

One owner from new until Sept 04. Given to a family friend and used for about 1500m from whom I bought it in November 04.
New TB/Water pump/roller
New Motor Mounts
If you have an interest contact me by PM and I can give you the details.

Wrecktech, Hughett--

You may want to check out Brian Buxton at buxtonmotorsports.com; he does locating.

This post will probably engender a tide of "hate posts," with people crabbing about the added dollars "wasted" on the dealer or locator, but all I have to say on the matter is that I bought an '88 S4 in very good to excellent condition with 76k miles, service records, and a few nice extras (e.g.upgraded stereo, RMB, engine chips) for $12.5k.

It has been a great car, and Brian is a real pro and a great guy. And he's in your neck of the woods, Wrechtech, down in Evansville, IN.

I looked for about a year, spent many hundreds of dollars on PPIs, and spent hours on the computer and the phone in my search before I decided to call Buxton. He had mine in stock, so I can't comment on his charges for locating, but it may be worthwhile.

Good luck in the hunt, y'all!

Default 928 search

Ann Arbor, I hope you are not a Michigan fan. Purdue rules!!!! Well not really but we get better every year. Thanks for the advice. I checked and he doesn't have one right now. Sounds like a good price. I would really like a 91 or newer but I think an 89 is the most likely. I know I will have at least 5k in a supercharging set up. The hardest part of finding what I want seems to be the interior. Most are black/black.

Thanks again
Thomas
