1989 S4
Did the 89 model have the computer that the later GT/GTS models had with the extra stalk on the left side of the steering wheel? Also, what functions does it perform. Thanks!!
The newer display also uses the LCD section to provide the diagnogstics, some with nice little pictures (toothed belt, low oil level etc) and "call range" when you get low on fuel. I like the way it changes color to RED for warnings.
On my '89 S4, the on-board computer displays are:
Instant fuel consumption rate
Average fuel consumption rate
Remaining distance to empty
Outside air temperature
Average speed
The Auxilliary functions are:
Odometer (fixed)
Digital speed indication
1st tripmeter
2nd tripmeter
1st timer
2nd timer
3rd timer
All displays can be toggled between English and Metric units

There's that "Call Range!" warning with the little picture of a gas pump in it. I need to do a little more driving research to see if it comes on at a specific fuel level or if it is based on a hard miles-remaining number calculated by the computer.
So far, this has been about the lightest fuel-cost year in my 928 history. Five fill-ups. Three of them were in August for the run up to SF and back for Devek Days. Could have made it on two tanks easily. The ride up seems to use a lot more than the ride home, in restrictive traffic flow. Seems like that skinny pedal really is attached to the gas gauge...
Merry Christmas to all!

But hopefully will see those readouts (except for the bad ones) again soon.
