we are rebuilding a 4.5 and installing new head studs however, the factory manual does not list a specification for measuring head stud protrusion. Does anyone know this spec? Any help appreciated.

I think Randy's the head stud here. Don't know what his specs are, though.

And I'm not gonna go anywhere near the "measuring the protrusion" question!

 

IMHO, the manuals are great for 85% of the work you'll do. The other 15% they have no more worth then the shop toiletpaper.

I just was dealing with headstuds, and was unable to find anything. Sorry. Tech spec book?

 

I've got my 4.7 euro engine on the stand right now with the heads off....I'll measure the height and post it when I get home.

 

I've got a 78 4.5l on the stand, measurement is
2.75" from block to end of threaded section of stud
not sure if this is standard, just what this one measures

 

I looked at my "Models, Dimensions, Tolerances" pocket guide part no 4226.20, 1st Edition 1979, and there were no dimensions given in this little guide.
