well I've now been outbid last minute twice for the same car, kinda frustrating, kept telling myself there was a reason I didn't win...
wonder if this is it... 79 Euro #12

Hmm seems kinda scary without seeing in person? But if you are closer and have a trailer, its worth a look. If the price is right (think real cheap), could be a fun project!

Rixter,
Why bid so early?
Bid at the last 5 seconds by using auction sniper to do it for you.
Go to www.auctionsniper.com and enjoy winning auctions for a change.
If you need more help let me know.
Best,
Roger

I bid in the last 10 seconds twice on the same car and got outbid, I will no longer bid last minute while at the shop. Course as this happens I continue to grow my "shark" account and this one I should be able to get without exceeding that. If anyone here really wants this car let me know and I'll stop bidding.
Otherwise, it's an early Euro, 5spd no sunroof... my kinda car and I should have enough parts at this point to replace dang near anything

hahah sniping is no longer a viable tool. those auto-snipers only work while your client is able to connect. sometimes the hand is quicker than the router.

heinrich, Rixter
Auctionsniper does it all for you, no longer am I dependent on my router.
I have used it 30 times in the last month and it never failed me once. The only time I have lost a bid is when the amount goes higher than what I plan to pay.
Give it a try - and its free.

At the risk of stealing Rixters thread...again

Rog
Help me understand something. If I will pay up to $5000 for a car and I bid early with a max bid of $5000 I will win the auction unless someone offers $500.01 right? So what is the true advantage of sniping, besides it's fun?

If you bid early, then others may bid to see if they can become high bidder. If they DO bid 5000.01, then they are high bidder and they've won. The advantage of sniping is that you can let the auction cruise along, giving the high bidder a false sense of security -- they think they have it all wrapped up -- and you come along in the last few minutes and outbid them. This keeps the price from escalating. Ideally, you would get your bid in when there is no time left for the other person to respond by outbidding you. However, you might want to leave yourself a few seconds in case your sniping bid isn't quite enough. In the above example, you may really want to pay 5K, but if you find that's not the high bid, you may want to leave yourself enough time to throw another $100 at it "just in case". Depends how bad you want the item.

I was able to get a new fuel pump off eBay recently. I did bid very near the end of the auction, but it wasn't really a sniper action. I got hate email from the person I outbid. Watch out for those vengeful types when testing your sniper skills.

Oh well, his tough crap, really. There's not much I wouldn't do for a brand new fuel pump at $53.00.

Hi Greg,
If you bid prior to the end of the auction your are in effect increasing the bid price (assuming someone has already bid). This also gives the other bidder/bidders time and the inclination to increase there bid.
If the current bid stands at $4000 and for a simple example there is only one other bidder. If you bid that will raise the bid to say $4100 and he will come back at $4200 and so on.
If you bid in the last 5 seconds and his bid is still standing at $4000 and he has a max of $4200 and you bid your max of $5000 you would get it for $4250.
Everytime you bid it gives someone the option to out bid you.
The purpose of sniping is to keep the bid price as low as possible.
Keep your cards close to your chest and don't let anyone else see them.
I buy absolutly everything on eBay I can and in the last three years have had two problems out of hundreds of transaction, both of which were resolved satisfactorly. Everything from cars to razor blades.
The secret to me is check the feedback, I don't buy from anyone with negative feedback. Unless they have accumilated say 3000 positives and one negative.
I never bid until the last 5 seconds which used to be a PITA because you had to sit around at all hours to make that last second bid. You were also at the mercey of your router which could cough at the last second and screw up your bid.
Hope that helps.
Roger

Greg you do point out the only reason to bid early...."besides it's fun?" being the high bidder you can think about ,talk about, plan what you will do with the item. Then when you get out bid you can think about ,talk about ,and feel bad about what you missed. If you are "successful" and "win" you then can think about ,talk about ,and wonder if you paid too much. Then you think ,about talk about, and hope it gets sent to you .Note that you can have about the same range of emotions whether you actually buy it or NOT. Bidding early just allows the friends /other ID of the seller to bump you up with fake bids and possibly gives others the impression that there is value and they then bid higher. Human nature is to seek out deals based on thousands of years of evolution as opportunistic hunter gatherers but bidding early just allows some one bigger to steal your prospective kill.

I saw this last night and though of you. I’m sure there are wasps, ants or rodents calling this car home

Roger
I do agree that items that have bids tend to generate more bids, leading to the items selling for well more then they are worth. So stalking the item is better then bidding on it.

You’ve obviously used this sniper program a lot, but you can certainly win every time with the first bid, as long as it’s the highest at the end.

BTW
I’m not against sniping. I’m guilty of it too.

Heinrich,
I assume you place items in your watching list?
