You guys crack me up. The snake's a nice touch. I'm thinking yellow.

Rez- My next door neighbor has a small cabinate perfect for these. GREAT IDEA! What's involved with removing the calipers? How do you disconnect the brake lines? Does all the fluid run out? Just wondering. Thanks.

I agree with what Heinrich has written. Make them purdy but don't advertise the 'little squeelers'! No offense! My brakes are bigger than yours!!; that came to a RED conclusion.

I'm kinda partial to powder coating, usually seems to last a bit better from what I've seen... during my upgrade to big reds (993) front and rears to S4 stuff w/cast holed rotors, decided to powdercoat the rears, since they came from a dismantler and looked kinda rough... it's a PITA to pull them totally apart, but they did come out looking awesome w/the polished raised Porsche letters... don't know if 85S stuff will fit on earlier cars, but I'm selling my old/new 85S rotors, stock calipers w/new (100mi) pads, and front spindles for $500.00 complete... if it'll fit, might be a nice upgrade WYIT, lots less than the monster stuff... powdercoating was pretty reasonable - about $125, due to lots of taping cause we couldn't get them totally apart w/out major surgery....

regards!

Thanks for all the ideas. I think yellow may be the color to go with, but then, black won't show the dust.... decisions decision.

Rob- I thought about the big brake upgrade, and I think I'll stay stock, there's a bit of extra work to get the 82 to work with the big brakes. They stop me fine right now, and I don't race the car, so it would only be for looks only. I'd rather put the $500 toward my SC fund... but then I might need the brake upgrades... oh crap. Is this why they call monay a scarce resources?

Andrew, if you can wait a day or so, I can post pics of the calipers I painted on my '79. I did a complete brake job, so I removed the calipers and totally dis-assembled them for painting. I chose silver, looks good on the small early calipers.

Andrew how did you get the wells so clean? What kinds of soap stuff did you use?

My sharks are red and I'm almost done with my Euro and it looks great but some of the black tar is caked on and very, very hard to get off. I did use a small pick to get the fine detail, but hell it will get dirty again soon. I'll post some pics on Sat.

I found a degreaser helps but will start stripping the paint off so I abadoned that.

actually money is the renewable resource, unlike time... I wound up w/the 993/S4 stuff when I started wonding how I'd rein in a 500hp monster (throttle restraint? me? fat chance)... it's all connected - that's the slippery HP slope indeed(balancing power,fuel,brakes,cooling,traction)... when dr. P's gang upped power, they did brakes, suspension, etc too - it's all a balancing act... probably all started w/a minor color change (lol)...

FWIW, also have a new eaton blower set up for andy's kit "laying" around/only $500(list over $600) was going to FI, till I discovered I needed a whole bottom end too/went the stroker route instead...

winter? brrrrrr.... so is that ice fog behind your shark? nice color too, but is it really white or is it just frozen??? just kidding... almost got me reaching for the malibu rum and hot chocolate, but I think it's going to be 75-80F or so this weekend here - so I'll be heading out for cosmo's instead ("slope- aid")...

regards!

You can easily drill your own rotors they are soft cast iron just layout a pattern to avoid drilling through the webs which hold the rotors together and chamfer the holes with a larger bit . A drill press makes it easier but it can be done with a hand drill and time !

I've heard that drilled rotors are more prone to cracking than cast hole rotors. Is this true? How can I tell if the holes in mine were drilled or cast?

RedUFO-

The key to getting it clean is lots of elbow grease. I used a lot of simple green and some brake cleaner. If you have cosmoline (looks like 50-year old vasoline - you still see some on mine here and there) do a search and Chuck Z has a way to get that off. It's a dirty job, but very satisfying. Also do a seach on "upskirt" and you'll see my write up. Ciao.
