Can I run an S4 for a week with the smog pump belt off?
Plan is to install the SC on Monday. In an effort to get a jump on things, I hope to install the crank and PS pulley before that. But I don't yet have the smog pulley from Andy. So if I switch the other 2 pulleys, I think I'll be using the ribbed belt to the PS pump, but won't be able to run a belt to the smog pump. Can I just leave my smog pump unhooked for a few days? Any adverse effects? What does it do, anyway?

There's a bunch of posts about this.
The air pump reduces NOx and remaining hydrocarbons in the rear section of the cat by introducing oxygen back into the exhaust stream. The front section of the cat reduces CO2, BTW.
Removal of the air injection will not kill the cat (although curiosity may be dangerous ).

BZZZZ.
IMHO you need to block of the actual line some where as exhaust gasses can flow up from the air feed line to the diverter vlave..then the smog pump etc.
When the pump is running it provides pressure to prevent that.
I seal mine off at the fitting where it joins the line down from the diverter valve.
