Would it be cheaper to slap on a supercharger or put in a hybrid engine. Keep in mind that I am located in Canada so shipping becomes a factor as well.

Cheaper all around to just buy a S4. Then later should still need more performance than stock you could add a supercharger.

i have full spread sheet of what my 84 did from stock to race . it went faster from 60-100mph starting from over 12 seconds down to around 7 with a 5 liter euro engine. then, with the Holbert car and its true S4 5 liter performance, it dropped to around 5.8 to 6 seconds. (but some of that was weight) I remember doing a test before i even worked on the car on the way over the Sierras from buying it in Reno nevada, it was 9 seconds at altitude and 7 seconds at sea level. (i told my self to barely run it and just get it home, as it was running like crap and no one new if the timing belt was original. very stupid!! but, the lure was just too much)

928fan,

Am I sure?

1. That an S4 is faster than you 0-60mph? Yes
2. That you have a weight advantage? Yes - around 200lbs
3. That you might win at the autocross? More than anything else, that depends on you and the other driver :^). But you do have the weight advantage!

Cameron,

Thanks for all the info you have given me. I was just suprised that the earlier 928s were alot lighter. But now that I think about it, it does make sense

Where abouts in Snowlandia do you live? Drive down to Florida for a Driver's Ed in January. I can put you up for a few days.

The biggest problem is the 3-speed auto. That car did 0-60 on about 8.3(when new), who knows about now. The first mod would be the put in a 5-speed. You could have a 350hp engine in that car and it would still be slow because of that horrible automatic. It's really that bad...

..... unless you ever decide to get a 'euro' S4, which are ~200lbs lighter - and reasonable available in your neck of the (snowy) woods.
In the vein as previously discussed, my '80 5-sp nicely holds its own when in PCA type 'fun runs'* with 911s, 930s, 968s, -64s, -93s, etc etc - and when in hard grinds to ~180 Kmph, is siamesed to a friends '86.5 928S 5-sp. I'm sure that above that, there would be little contest - but who cares, this is not the track, so within sane limits the '80s are just fine: The S4 euro would be no quicker in the 'fun run' category - but if there is open road, the S4 is gone ....

* to clarify, I'm referring to curvey roads: results can be quite different if freeway is involved, but that's not my 'thing'.

Cameron - I am in manitoba canada, Pretty cold outside right now. I think I might have to go on a road trip in the spring once finish doing some winter upgrades

Weissach - I wasn't aware that the 3 - speeds were so bad. I heard that they are reliable but I guess for performace wise they are not the greatest.

I was thinking of getting another 928, maybe an s4 or something that is quicker. You can get them up here for some decent prices. I will just have to do some shopping.

928fan,

I was born in Manitoba, Canada. And I am willing to bet a suitcase of OV that my home town is farther north than yours.

Very close race!! I have run with Heinrich door to door at WOT, both 5sps. GT's and GTS's will pull on you, but not drastically so.

Edit: With supercharger bolted on you can eat 'em up all day long!
