1st, "Who are we?" We are the buyers dumb****! I hate to put it that blunt but you are talking to the most informed group of 928 owners probably in the world.

2nd, It's not Wilhoit that most people have a problem with, it's the "brokers" that never even see the cars but try to get a premium out of them that are the main target.

3rd, You want a good laugh? I am co-owner of a shop that specializes in 928's and 944's. To think that you are the "God Almighty" of 928's is insane. I'm quite sure that Wilhoit would love to get his hands on our 89' GT but believe it or not, we are in the same business as you. Some of us out here are more "experts" than you and this is your selling pool? Come to Utah and we will show you a true enthusiest's shop, not a "reseller". Our first purpose is not to buy decent examples and prime them up for sale, it is to enhance the breed. Between my partner & I we own 14 928's, several of which will be for sale when we think the market is ready for them. Not all as some are for personal use. What do you drive? Or race?

I see nothing wrong with trying to get the value of 928's where they should be but it's the paper thin phony's that are only trying to make a quick buck off of a uninformed seller that ****'s me off. Then again, there are those people that think they know all about 928's and think everyone else on this board are uninformed idiots...........

Merry, feel free to PM me, maybe I can help you tune, repair and clean up your 928's for less than 30%! It's not that hard if you know what you are dealing with.

Default Too Many Variables -- One Story

Heinrich: Yea, Low is not a phony, BUT his posts have multiple contradictions, that being one of them. Makes you wonder.

Money makes people crazy: as Jim B says, there really is no "market" for these cars, too many variables. A motivated buyer will pay more (Faster ***** Cat Kill Kill -- nevermind). I probably paid a premium for my '85, 5-sp. two weeks earlier I passed on a cherry S4 b/c it was a little more than I could comfortably pay at the time. We had agreed on price, but I hadn't seen it and THEN he said it was scheduled for a TB retension and a turn signal lens was on order. WTF, the auction was over and now you are asking me to wait!! it was below reserve, but he would let it go for the bid I gave. I could have waited but I had been looking for a year and it was July, and now you tell me it isn't availble for another 2 weeks? At this point I didn't know if he was stalling or what. Long story short I walked -- always wondered about that car. . . and then there was Yvonne in Sacramento in the 70s???

Hey Low, you are one of the exemptions as far as I'm concerned. If you actually do what you say to these cars then I have no problem with you making a profit (if there is any room left after bringing them up to your level). We want a premium for our 89' GT but it's worth it and believe it or not, it's about what we have into it. Then there's Sean........

The thing I noticed is all these dealers have in common is drunk arogance and nearly total disrespect to 928 owners. We are treated as 2nd class citizens by them. With 'You should be so lucky to pay me 5k for a shark I just bought off Ebay last week".

Perhaps having more respect for your target market will gain you more respect back. But when the lot comes off as some kind of royalty and we are the peons. This kind of feedback is what happens to them. You simply can't crap on the buyers and command authority and respect back. Like kicking a dog and expecting it to love you.

The reality is reverse, they need us, we don't need them.

Tom: True but some cars, (928s, not Camrys) are creatures of passion. Any seller who pimps, excuse me, deals with a product/price that is negotiable is looking for the passion. Used car dealers get bored and need something interesting to toy with. Put another way, if they see vulnerability they can exploit it. Get the buyer to fall in love with the house, car, ho, and they have hooked a live one and sometimes they are in it as much for the "fun" as the profit. That's where the contempt comes in. I'm not saying Merry(sp) or Low or Sean is one of them but they are out there and if you show how much you want it, weakness, they will exploit you and turn up the heat. There are many honorable dealers but this factor coupled with the variables I described earlier provide the ingredients for lots of feather ruffling. Americans don't like to negotiate, they generally aren't used to it and don't do it well. At higher end dealerships it is more civilized, and you might run into a situation where they just want to move the product out, but believe me they count on the emotional factor in their pricing.

Quick Reply: Same car, with $6,400 of added "value".....
