Default Wheel rant.

long story short, my car "bit" me last night. and it was all my own fault.
I think it was Chris Farley that said.. "stupid...stupid...stupid" That pretty much sums it up!

A little too hard and too long on the throttle as i made a turn. Remember that line that i have used before..."Power is nothing with out control"..i proved it last night.
I kissed a curb, scratch that, i "mated" with a curb and my front wheel is toast. Im lucky i didnt total the whole frikn front right suspension! I drove the 2 miles home with no issues, weired sounds, noises, feelings etc. That was a relief. I parked the car in the garage and then i heared a faint hiss... air was slowly leaking out of the tire at the impact point. Lucky i made it home! The back wheel has a small ding on the surface of the steel lip...non issue and its OK. Its just these wheels were FLAWLESS before Sucks.

Anyway, im running 18" AT Rivas that are two piece in design. Before you say 18" is the problem, trust me, a stock 16" rim wouldnt have survived, im sure of it. I make a few calls today to find they dont sell the outer part of the rim separatley and my tire/wheel place says it cant be fixed. Not only becasue of the damge (its actually cracked inside) but the design of the wheel its self doesn lend to being repaired.!

WTF!! why have a two piece rim then...? that really pissed me off. these wheels werent that cheap and they arent the lightest either..Now i get this slap in the face.

If i had the outer piece i would be in business....but Noooooooooooo they dont sell then separately.
No drag strip for me on friday!
Now im grounded until mid December until Tire Rack gets a new shippment of this size in. Unless i decide to bag the whole set of wheels and go with somehting else...but that isnt a too cheap of an option and wouldnt go over to well with the SO. Stock 17" twists would be nice. The Rivas are heavy, no doubting that but i get so many complements on them that i am torn about ditching them. They really do look good on the car. This also would be a good time for me to plunk down some $$$ on customs so i can run 335s in the back like "Blownbeast" ...but that invloes bodywork which would dig even deeper into the budget and would go over like " a fart in a space suit" around here. This car sure can become a big $$$ snowball at times! I love it though

With all this in mind, and to put a positive spin on it, i guess, i will ask what everyones favorite personal choice of wheels are.
Pictures would be good and they MUST fit a 928.

Oh, BTW, Mr Lockhart, i need info on how you made that cool "Riva" wall clock for DR!

Hey, Tony..

Soory to hear about your mishap. It's kind of like being a kid: the car tells you to be careful, you know it, but you just don't learn until you get spanked! Oh well.

If got a pair of 15" phonedials with your name on them if you need...

Respect the force, Luke.

What a coincidence! My wife always tells me the same thing! Power without control is nothing!

I once had a similar occurance. Although since it was in a 911, it was my right rear wheel. What a car that '82 was... Steering by pendulum effect.

Cool

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. My favorite and currently number one on my wish list are the Fikse FM-10's. A little pricey, but you can check with wheel enhancements, and they are made to order. I really like the way those wheels looked on your car It was Forrest Gump that said, "Stupid is as stupid does"

Tony, look for a used 18 on ebay....you will not find one that is a porsche lug pattern but you could use the out side rim ring to swap out and make one good wheel. Sorry dude for your bad luck.

One word: Fikse

True 3-piece forged wheel. Offsets in 1/2" increments (AFAIK). Pretty light too.

As for the other thing... I know how you feel. A couple of years ago a curb jumped out and kissed both right side Fikses on my '91. (My excuse was that I was attempting to avoid a bozo trying to co-exist in my lane.)

You can see a picture of my '91 with Fikse Mach Vs on D.R.s website.

My favorite is the Riva's. Get one more lots cheeper than a new set of anything else. Let the compliments flow.

Again, bummer bro!

I started a thread a couple weeks back on wheels that will fit the 928 and the response was very low. I don't think that folks know there is more out there for the 928 than they think. I am in the process of putting together a list of manufacturers and models that will fit the 928. It is an agonizing thing trying to figure out what looks good on your own particular car from the short supply of wheels out there. I have a few ideas for the GTS, but not ready to share them just yet. Wheel Enhancement is probably the best place for the largest collection of wheels for the 928....a good place to start.

Tony,

I still love the K28R's on Greg Shickles car. It makes it look like a Hotwheel!

Keith, not sure what experience you had with Wheel Enhancement, didn't Robert Wood start that after he left "Robert Wood"? I talked to him and he wanted to sell me what he thought was good for my car, not what I wanted.
Seemed to be arrogant and it was his way or the highway. A 911 buddy of mine here in DFW seemed to have the same experience.
I ended up buying my Turbo Twists through Devek via the Tire Rack.

Good luck Tony!

Tony,
You are hereby decorated with the Purple Rotor for your casualty.

Hopefully someone will award you with a loaner wheel so you can get to the track on Friday.

Come on guys there has to be a set of spare front wheels and tires in Vegas somewhere.

If you could get some loaner front wheels/tires would you still go Tony?

Tony you need some little skinny tall tires wheels in the front with like 60 lbs of air......that should help for the drags.

Jim,
See if you can talk Tony into coming over for the upcoming POC meet. He needs a little practice handling the extra horsies.
