Default Squeaky rear hatch fix for 2 bucks!

Hi,

Rear hatch squeaking. Didn't like it. Make Mongo angry.

Mongo take 2 dollar glueless inner tube patch kit. Peel and stick patches. Mongo cut patches and stick on rubber blocks that are on the side of hatch jamb. Those blocks old, already adjusted as far as they go, letting squeak happen.

Patches on rubber blocks made of vinylized rubber. Change is invisible. No squeaking now. Mongo is pleased.

Pass the beans.

I did pretty much the same thing by going to my friendly neighborhood hardward store and picking up a handful of fairly large diameter (maybe 2") thin black rubber washers - the ones with a small hole in the middle, 'bout the size you could poke a Q-tip through. Found 'em in the aisle that has all the bins for nuts, bolts, fasteners, etc. Tried various numbers of them on each side until I got the best combination to stop the squeak. I think it was two washers on one side and three on the other. Didn't glue them down as they stay put pretty well on their own. Plus, over time, as the rubber stops on the hatch come down against the washers, the washers will deform into a cup shape and not work quite as well. When that happens, I just replace the washers without having to unglue them. Also found that the two wedge-shaped rubber hatch jams located on the "C pillars" about a foot aft of the struts are somewhat adjustable and also help to control the squeaks.

Default Mongo mania

Hmmmm, seem like Mongo need more to do, must be bored, don't worry soon Mongo be up to ahole in snow for next 5 months. In the mean time drop all of those washer fixes, just dab a bit of talcum powder on offending areas and squeak be gone.
