Steve.."what can he really offer you if the car is on one coast and he is on the other?" He found the listing and looked at the photos telephoned the owner.....what more do you want ? Some people have more money than time or dislike doing certain things. I do not mow my lawn or vacuum floors and clean toilets. For some of us the search and finding the car is much of the "FUN" for others especially with E-Bay it is much more an impulse buy with a built in time constraint the auction will close and everyone likes to "win" . But you are correct with out ever seeing the car all anyone can KNOW is what the owner SAID about the car or what photos convey. Reminds me of the story about canned sardines when they were first introduced to China . The clipper ships would sail in with a hold full of canned sardines. Meet the junks in Hong Cong harbor and off load into several junks. The junks would then sail up the rivers as far as they could then off load into smaller man powered boats. When the smaller boats reached the end of the river several coolies would then carry the sardines on their backs . Now each time they changes hands the sardines sold for more and more money. By the time they were being carried by the coolies they were very valuable. One curious local peasant who had been watching the coolies carry sardines learned that he only had a few weeks to live since he had no relatives to leave his property he sold everything he owned and bought a can of sardines. He just had to taste such an expensive delicacy at least once in his life. He opened them and began to eat but quickly spit it out.... He loudly proclaimed "These are rotten!" The cooley nearest him said "Those sardines are for trading not for eating". Moral of the story if you are not the one to eat it ,it makes little difference if it is rotten or not .

Hmmm .... well, if I bought a car from someone I would expect that they would have touched the car. I think this is a matter of opinion, but brokering things you have not personally inspected .... that is hazardous if those items could have been misrepresented originally. And IMHO, almost all cars that sell are misrepresented in some way. I never misrepresent anything ... which is why no-one will buy from me. They buy from others who give them a clean bill of health ... then they get it home and have to deal with the many unstated problems. This is life.

Jim: I agree, it's all relative. I heard on CNN this AM that Sam Walton's widow who is I don't know how old, 83 I think, but worth several Billion made breakfast for houseguests who were not particularly close friends, at 6:30 one morning. Maybe not all, but some. To further muddy the water, I have been paid a "finders fee" for a 928, it was low 3 figures and I made no representation other than I thought the dealer was honest and had done a thorough inspection on another 928 I had seen in his shop. I just have a particular distrust for hype.

I'm sure a lot of brokers don't realize this - and the laws are quite possibly different in the U.S - but in Canada, if you pay someone to, say, find a product for you and broker a transaction between you and the original seller, they have entered into a legal relationship as an Agent employed by you (although employed isn't the best term to use, actually, as it implies certain other rights/responsibilities).

The upshot of this is that the broker has a number of legally binding responsibilities, including a fiduciary duty to to the person that has engaged their services. The issue then is whether you or the seller is paying the broker - because the duties follow the money. Buying with a broker through ebay makes the situation less clear (to me at least, as I'm only in my first semester of business law), however if they are selling the vehicle for someone else and their fee is coming from you, they would be in a weak legal position should the car not match its description, or if there was undeclared issues.

Not quite on topic, but good to know - at least for Canadians.

David you are correct. Of course in practice it is always more a case of what the buyer is willing to swallow before turning to legal avenues. I have a friend whose house was flooded because of construction across the road and he has accepted a $6,000 cheque. This to me is not a good way to do things but he just wants it over.

Hm, thats right. I'm so busy looking for cases I'm forgetting to consider whether one would end up with anything other than a lot of wasted time and an empty wallet. It's hardly worth going after anyone for less than 20k.

also, I apologize for the o/t.

Most of the cars Sean lists are almost impossible to find, at least from my known sources. I am back in the market for a 928 and like having several options. Sean only markes up his cars between $500 and $1500. I think that is a fair price to pay for a car I might not have know of in the first place that might turn out to be a pecfect car for me.

This has to be the highlight of my day.....Pages of conversationabout me by folks who do not know me other then my ads through ebay and the monthly LETS REMEMBER TO MAKE SEAN OUT TO BE A VILLIAN BEFORE DOING ANYTHING INTELLIGENT. Its nice to know people can dislike a rambling drunk (haha fooled you) before meeting him but its sure funny that the REAL people who do seem to feel quite different. I wonder if its because I am fair to both parties. I routinly sell cars for much less then the buyer is asking or for more if they are worth it...... Its a tough life.

I am an auto adoption specialist and not a broker...... so put that in your pipe and smoke it........ By the way I appreciate those who have looked at my history and judged accordingly. As we all know, problems do arrise in business and I can asssure everyone of you I handle them because of my honest approach and concern for happiness by all involved. I like the 928 as much as anyone and I am allowed to do what I please and was blessed with the smarts to do something few get to and be happy doing it so if thats a bad thing then your confused.

Anyone without a bad opinion of me interested in a 91 Silver/Midnight blue S4 with 82k? I actually have it in my possesion. Actually drove it from La to Seattle/ Actually looked at odometer and put oil in it.Actually bet nobody knew that. Needs a little TLC but am willing to give someone a good deal. I got a very good deal on it and would lke to pass that on.

There are a couple people here who do know me and one of which was given a HUGE finacially gift because he had been duped and instead of thinking about my finacial goals I gave hom the profit and it was only because I hated to see a friend get screwed..... I do that for people and if you dont like that then its you with the problem not me.... SEE YAH IN A MONTH!

So if you find someone to "adopt" my car, 5 years later I want it back, how does that work? Do I get visiting rights? Will my girlfriend that has help keep her on the road get any kind of auto-support for financial payback?

"I" wan't trying to run you down, "I" was simply asking the question if you actually owned the cars you sell. Thats all. CHILL.
And thanks for the e-mail you sent me on EBAY.... I wrote " the number of 91 Gt's is closer to 50 and not 90" you wrote "lets all thank Jason for knowing the trivial aspects of the 928"
The fact that you advertise a "SEANCAR" on Ebay...is that supposed to make it good?..Please.

Sean really needs to take a course in basic people skills and diplomacy. He sure comes across as being an arrogant ******* at times, doesn't he.
