new stereo install wiring?
Hey everyone,
I am going to upgrade the stereo in my '87. It already has an older panasonic cd player which is going to go. I think I will go with MB Quart speakers and use those grills. Rewiring the system seems to me to be the best way to go, however, should I leave the old harness in place, and keep the old speakers just in case? or pull it out? Mark

Getting wiring through the doors is always a fun time, not really. I'd keep the wiring there just in case you get stuck.
When I did mine the first time, I tapped into the stock wiring and it worked great.

Mark,
Depends on how you are going to install the new system. I put a new headunit in, with amps in the trunk area. Since the speakers were going to be wired from the amps, not the headunit, I went ahead and put new wires in - it was easier than trying to run the speaker wires from the trunk all the way back up to the console just to use the existing wire. If you are just going to wire speakers to the head unit, I would suggest using the existing wires - I checked them out and they are of good quality - using new wires wouldn't give you any benefit IMO

I'm an Alpine *****, the last speakers I went shopping for were 3 1/2 for my Audi. The Alpine's were much better than the Eclipse - I forgot about MB's, the local "high end" shops don't carry them anymore.
You might be suprised by Polk - my friends competition system (20+ speakers in a Golf) is all Polk and is nothing short of awesome.
