Default The 928 engine as art.

I've always throught that the early model 928's engine was highly artistic.

So now I'm in college takeing a stupid English course. I'm suppost to write a paper about a peice of art, and a contraversy srounding it, and convince the audiance one way or the other in the contraversy.

Well, I experessed a desire to do a paper on how the 928's motor is art. She agreed FAR more readly than I expected. Even enthustaticaly. OK, great.

Well, I need to be able to describe the art peice in photos to my prof, so she'll be fimiler with it before she reads my paper. (requirement for the paper.)

So now, if you guys have any good photos of the 928's engine, you know the really pretty ones, or cut aways, or things like that I'd apreciate it. I know how much ya'll love to show off.

(Btw, I really want to use the photo graph of DR's daily driver on 928gt.com. Thats such a clean engine!)

Thanks.

Viribus ...."stupid English course" .... It is an unfortunate fact of life that how you express yourself is often far more important than WHAT you say or write . The "controversy" of an engine being an object of art is probably lost on this Forum There have been some 928 engines converted to glass covered coffee tables and sold on E-bay. Good luck with your paper and that very important English class.

"Stupid english course" is of course my opinion. I hate writeing non technical papers, expecacly non technical papers about how I feel, and what is art. But it is an unfortunate fact of life that we have to communicate, and like you say, how you say it may out weight what you say.

And I'll have you know that I've not been counted off once for spelling or grammer errors, and have been getting high marks accrost the board. It just takes me much more effort than the rest of the class.

Nicole may be able to help with her encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the design and advertising of the 928.

The fact that it is hard for you and takes more effort might just mean you have more opportunity to improve. The point of going to college should be to learn and not just get good grades. Enjoy the experience. You should share your paper with the Forum ,it is about 928s !

Viribus

Well spoken and written communication is a necessity for survival. One of the best classes I've ever taken in college was business communications or "english for business majors". It was, and continues to be, a very valuable class experience.

Here's a shot of a 32V engine. It's not a spider intake, but still a beauty.

For artistic display(like under glass) an engine is usually stripped of most ancillaries in order to show the purity of the basic premise that mechanical design can indeed be art. I have a spare engine that I've built into a rolling work bench. I'll try to get some pix and post them this afternoon.

Art is in the eye of the beholder....Though we may consider the engine artwork it might be hard to convince a class of non enthusiasts that it is.

I once heard it said I think by a comedian ..."My third grade teacher hated me so much she taught me how NOT to spell , She said it would haunt me for the rest of my life!"

Coming to the US it used to bother me horribly how bad so many people's English is here. Even Africans with absolutely no schooling often have better grammar, spelling and diction than some I've met here who have gone through school and through college. And often I am "corrected" when I use correct English, simply because so many are used to "talkin' english real good".

I've learnt though that good English or good whatever language is a personal choice. YOU choose it or choose it not. Viribus's first post here is case-in-point. If you want to learn, you will, but if you consider English courses "stupid", you will learn nothing and slide on through. Maybe Viribus, the reason they make you take this course is actually to help you? CARPE DIEM DUDE!!!!!
