Default Tensioner Question

Is it possible to get a tensioner without the mount for the air pump? I removed mine recently and the engine looks weird with that empty bracket sticking out. Maybe it will look better once the head is back on. Can anyone post a pic of their engine bay with the pump removed?

You can cut it off.

Yes, you can cut it off; just be aware, if you ever want to buy a rebuilt tensioner the one you cut may be useless as a core. That's the only downside I can think of, unless the car ever needs an airpump again.

So what are you doing for a rad fan - going electric or to the 21" belt trick? If neither, mount a pulley in there as a fan belt tensioner ( euro style tensioner).
If you have the original tensioner ( no oil fill screws, no rear gasket - oil chamber), do the hacksaw trick as Heinrich says. In any event, when the engine is fully operational, the bracket fades from view - if you want to make it 'fade' even more, spray it flat black!

Thanks for the pic PorKen, I was looking at your collection of posts, and it seems that none of the pictures in them work? You've done some pretty cool stuff.

some may not remember that we use that air pump bracket for a place for using the tensioning tool device!

Airflite40,

Thanks! I've haven't been able to do any work on my car lately, with work and home repair, but I'm going to have some updates soon I hope, for the stuff that I did that actually works.

I think that the Rennlist member server is having troubles. John D. is, I think I read, on vacation, and will fix it upon his return.

I found that if you right click on the pics and select 'Open Image In New Window', then hit refresh, they'll show up. Tedious, huh!

BTW: I hate the bracket, too. I've thought about cutting it off, and making a removable steel bracket to mount the pump when I have to go for air quality tests.

How about an air pump for extra air horns? About 120dB worth?
