Default Glove box door... hmm....

I have an 86. It has a leather interior.

The glove box door has a square corner on the right upper part. The hole in the dash seems rounded. It looks like vinyl. This doesn't seem right.

Does a leather covered glove box door have a rounded corner?

Did the PO replace the original glove box door wih a vinyl one that doesn't fit right?

Dang. It's a small thing, but... it's a thing.

Confirmation that I need a different door would be appreciated...

My shark has factory leather, but the glove box door was very warped from years of sun damage. I bought a vinyl door from 928 intl. and it fits just fine. I didn't notice anything like what you are seeing. I'll go out later and take a closer look.

Dash and glove box door are the same for leather and non-leather versions. The only difference is that the leather versions have some things shaved off, and the whole thing is covered by leather. I suspect, Porsche was using the not-so-perfect pieces as cores for the leather covered ones.

In case the nearly 16 year suspense was killing anyone else because they didn't see it : here is a related post a couple years later from Rob Budd:

Straight corners on the glove box door

(came across these threads while looking for something else...)

And for the answer to the OPs question from 2004.
on the top corner of the glove box opening there is a small piece of aluminum thats screwed into the corner to hold the dash covering in place.
If this falls out or is missing then the covering will lift making it look like it could be a curved area

Just a note that the plastic surround inside the factory leather glovebox is NLA so you need to find used.
