I got nailed on the way to work in May. It took until late July for the Walnut Creek Court to notify me. I stopped by there several times just to make sure it wasn't lost in the mail. They are very backlogged due to a reduction in staff. It can take a couple of months before the CHP reports it to the local jurisdiction. I can't see it is worth the time, expense and trouble to drive all the way down there to fight this, even if you get off free. Hopefully you can do the online thing.

Nicole,
One more thought. Some states dismiss minor tickets based upon previous good driving record. I'd say five years without an infraction might qualify you. Check with local counsel. Good luck.

I reply to your post a couple of pages back, I got a ticket for tailgating and I've gotten them for broken lights, etc. CHP doesn't have the staffing to do all they need to do, but they are about as good as it gets.

Hey, that's the first ever ticket I've heard of for tailgating! My shark seems to be an ideal bait for tailgaters, because I have them all the time - hardly ever with the Saab. Still not sure what it is...
Did you notice on our trip to SoCal how I often pulled over to the right lane when I was following you or others? I always want space around me, and be able to look as far ahead as possible. In Germany we drive offset on the lanes - you typically can see two cars ahead or more. Here, the lanes are not wide enough to do that, and most drivers stay in the middle of the lane, so this does not work very well. You have to change lanes or drive on the shoulder to get the same effect.
In Germany they have cameras on some bridges, and markings on the road. The system determines the speed of the vehicles, the distance between them, and then shoots a few pictures. Alternatively, they have the unmarked patrol cars with the video radar equipment.
If you get caught by either, it gets very expensive. If you get ticketed twice for tailgating, red light violations or speeding of more than 25km/h over the limit, you have a good chance of walking for a month or more. My dad experienced that a few years back Luckily he was able to schedule the "outage" during his vacation...

My little home town outside of Stuttgart is now known to have the highest concentration of photo radars per capita in Germany! Needless to say, they also have solar powered parking ticket vending machines anywere in walking distance to a retail or service business, and an army of city employees to write parking tickets for those who don't pay. Takl about revenue collectors - they have taken it to the extreme!
