Default Fan question

I was doing some research today on Illinois Emissions Laws, and I was able to find out that there is no visual inspection, and for cars of MY 1968-1980 they only test at idle. This is goods news for me, since I dont have a cat, and I am planning on removing the air pump. I also have removed the A/C compressor and lines. I remember a while back reading that one can delete the belt driven fan and replace the stock electric fan with a newer and better one, and actually improve cooling. Is that possible? If so, which electric fans are known to work? I tried searching the archives, but I couldn't find a clear answer.

I think you can ask Jack that question. I think he has an early year with viscous removed.

I haven't deleted my belt-driven fan, but I replaced the front fan with a 16" Spal fan having 2-3 times the output(depending who you talk to). Pic below, more details here.

Hmmm... for some reason the image isn't showing up in post preview... so here's a link: http://members.rennlist.com/sharkski...edFrontTop.jpg

Thanks Borys....

BTW I have heard that there is a 16" Hayden fan available at Autozone, Pep Boys, etc that is pretty straightforward to install using the stock brackets. I didn't actually try to do the install... I went and looked at a local Pep Boys and the best 16" Hayden fan I could find was rated about 500CFM less than the Spal. IIRC the hayden was ~1700CFM.
