Leda Suspension Group Buy

Nick,
On pg. 3 of the post "Tempted by Leda .... " on the 944 Turbo, Turbo S forum,
Peter Empson (UK) has posted some Pics of a set fitted with Eibachs: As I was quoted by Leda, they use the flat seat, linear rate coil - overs. What the rates and options are is yet unknown. It may well be possible to use progressives with the Ledas, but I suspect that would not be the norm.
To reference the comments on spring rates for the 928, what are the spring rates of stock OEM springs? - say a S4 auto as the median as they represent a large number, or the GT/SE as the upper end of linear springs. Does anyone know these rates?

i think the stock spring rates for the front are around 400 lb, rears are less. the CS springs are 10% stiffer again. i think the fixed rate springs would be fine, thats what the factory installed anyway.
i know this has all been tossed around before and some folk have had a lot more direct experience with springs and shocks ie. the three marks. having read the comments on the 944 board id be prepared to try the ledas. seems they are at least as good as the konis, completely customisable and more competitively priced.

I have spoken to Karl at Racer's Edge, whom is currently the Master Distributor for LEDA suspension in the US. He sent me some (IMHO) VERY NICE pictures via email of a RACE only setup that he had made for a 928. The upper coil over mounts are STRAIGHT aluminum. Wow. I will post these pics soon if people want to see them.

Since the cat is about out of the bag and Karl has passed on the photos I took of my 928 coilovers, I thought I would speak up on this issue. I contacted Racers Edge six months ago concerning this 928 "race car" application. Karl and I worked together to determine the specs and dimensions required for the application. Lots of emails, fax's, photos, "core parts" and so on.
Therefore, to set the record straight, the original design and work came from Racers Edge-USA... not from the UK. The 1978 928 based car has undergone a multitude of modifications and should be completed by mid December. So, right now there is not any information on the performance of the application. however. every indication points to Leda's reputation of superior performance. I really don't want to get into a discussion about this, because there is not much more to report right now except that there are alot more details to the application than what the original "group buy" proposal suggests. My opinion is to support Racers Edge, who continues to provide innovation for the Porsche community, and who is the official agent of Leda in the USA. Karl can provide superior service and product at a fair price....and remember Racers Edge agreed to look at this 928 application and run with it just because some guy in South Carolina asked him to look into it.

Everytime this thread bumps to the top of the list, I first read "Lada Suspension Group Buy" - and ask myself why anybody would want to switch the suspension of their 928 to a Russian brand from the communist aera...
Lada used to make Ex-FIAT cars from the late 60ies and had a horrible reputation in Germany. The only reason to buy one was because they were cheap. You got what you paid for: Lotza problems...
OK, I've learned to look more closely in the meantime! It's Leda, I know...

lloyd,
those coilovers are very nice, are they bump and rebound ajustable and are you using hypercoil springs? i thought leda would only use eibach.
ive sent an email to leda uk asking for some more detail on their product in varying configurations, probably i will order a set eventualy.

The units I purchased are equipped with Hypercoil Springs. I am not aware of their policy on various spring suppliers. They are 24 click adjustable units and they are drilled and tapped for the remote reservoir option if needed at a later date. They included the custom upper aluminum mounts and the lower steel bushing mounts. I thought the price was very competitive for a custom race application considering this was a "one off" project. Leda can provide several options as outlined in their product literature. Spring rates and valving are left to the experts at Leda. I would suggest contacting Leda or Racers Edge for more details concerning your application.

We use Eibach springs here, but I know Karl uses Hypercoil. Both are high quality spring manufacturers.
Brendan, thanks for posting those pics
Lloyd, thanks for passing on your comments about Racers Edge. Karl's input on the Porsche range with Leda has been enormous, and we are very pleased to have him as our master distributor.
If anyone is intrested i the group buy, John D has posted prices on the long thread (page 13 I think) could you contact me directly please.
Regards,
Beverley
