I'm considering the Leda coilovers. A few months ago I drove a raceprepped 944 NA with Leda suspension and that car was amazing

From what I understand the dampening is adjustable without removing the dampers.

From what I heard the Leda guys a quite knowledgeble and they know what they are doing. The seem to have a good reputation I've never heard anything bad about Leda shocks, except that they can be a bit noise some times.

It would be nice with some more information though.

The Bloke is having some "951 community" issues over on that board. So much energy gets wasted over there - it amazing they get anything done. I've emailed him for a response - I'm sure he'll come through.

I had a helpful conversation with LEDA this AM - so perhaps this can clarify some points re. the 928 application. My questions centered only on catalogue # V0201, the oil filled dampers for the 928 @ GBP 837.
- all dampers/shocks are made to order with a typical 3-4 week delay
- damper end fittings/attachments are as per customer order (heim/rose/etc. joint), so for a 928 I suspect they require a used set of Boges to work from.
-there are some errors in the catalogue listing; apparently, it was assumed that 928 had 944 style rear torsion bars not requiring coil-overs, for this came up several times.
a) the V0201 price is dampers only! They are @253/fr, 172.5 rear, or GBP 851 the set of four - GBP 14 error re. the 837, no big deal.
b) the Eibachs are separately priced @ GBP 50.25, or ~ GBP 200/set - and to repeat - are not included in the GBP 851 price.
- the Eibachs used are flat seat, linear springs of 2.5" id front, 2.25" id rear.
- the 24 position valving is said to be quickly adjustable externally - and can accommodate driving to the Country Club for dinner to aggressive track use: This would be one of the strong points IMHO.
Anyway, for the 928, it would seem that shocks w. Eibachs list at ~ GBP 1050: A group buy as Tommo is kindly promoting would knock ~30% from that to 735. VAT of 18% can be avoided on export if you are clever, then there is shipping, Customs/Excise. The $US/GBP current exchange rate is ~1.84 - which would be ~ $1352 US/ $1654 Cdn.
What I've read of this set up on 911s etc - the Ledas seem to be a great set up; however, for our 928s - it is not quite 'off the shelf'. To be fair to Leda, it does seem that with very little effort, they would have the correct attachments fitted to the dampers - and it would be a most attractive suspension at a slightly higher price ( 200 -30% for the Eibachs).
Perhaps this will add some facts to the unknowns raised - they were very pleasant folks to talk to, and would be most helpful to proceed.

Garth,

Great info! I'm a a bit confused about one thing, does this mean that we have to send them a core to start off with?

They would seem to need a dimensional spec for the 928 shocks front and rear, at least fo the length, stroke and end fittings: If that is not readily available to Leda, it is my speculation that a typical Boge fr/rear shock would tell them all they need. I didn't persue the topic past that point, although a core sounds like the most practical thing.

This seams to address Marc@Devek's question - these have never been installed or tested on a 928 before.

Hacker,
That may, or may not be true - They list many dozens of applications in literally hundreds of variations: I did not persue the conversation to confirm direct 928 experience with the Tech guy who fielded my call.

Guys

I'm about an hour away from the leda factory in the UK, if they did need to see a 928 for specs etc i dont mind going along, plus i'm very tempted in getting a set but was planning on getting my suspension done next year as i have other projects in the way first.

Stuart, that sounds great!

I'm very tempted getting a set myself but my wife is not so happy about it At 640£ plus 17,5% vat she could barely accept it.

I was thinking why don't we organize a group buy ourselves. Stuart is tempted and some of you US guys to. So if we could get at least 5 persons then it's 30%off. This would buy me some more time to convince my other half that we actually need these coilovers

1300 or more puts me out of the ballpark - I already ordered and have just recieved my Konis. I was thinking that a package for over a grand would be comparable to me getting eibachs and these konis for ~950 plus finding hardware.

A lady namedBeverley on the 951 list has come forward as a rep of LEDA in the UK. She is sour on a group buy for the USA as there is already a "master distributor" for LEDA here.

Hey all - I added to the thread over on the turbo 944 list and asked Beverly some questions - hopefully she will have time to respond here or there....

I said:
Bev - could you come over to the 928 thread for a moment and answer some of the questions that Tommo has not had a chance to?

A gentleman from that area has already called your business I believe. There may be more questions still though.

The issue with springs being extra from the prices (and thereby the group buy discounts) listed - can you verify this?

The 928 is heavier then the 944 obviously, and we would need, for street use, ~400s for the front, and ~300s for the rear, with alot of height adjustability. I couldn't even say how long the spring should be....

The rear shock on the 928 also has a sort of "kink" or "bend" in the weld for the lower bolt-joint. This is obviously because the shock is not fully perpendicualr to suspension travel. Would the LEDA units have this?

Thanks,

i would be wanting a stiffer spring rate at 600 front and 400 rear as per deveks hypercoil coilovers. i have the eibach progressives on my 86 and they are great for an aggressive street car around town but i think they could do with being firmer.

are these shocks two way ajustable, that is for bump and rebound? i think we probably do have enough interest to initiate a group buy and it shouldnt be too difficult to get a couple of dead cores sent to leda, here in the uk, for them to measure the physical dimensions.

Nick the Eibachs are 399-559 lb fronts and 285-372 lb for the rear progressive but the 2,800 -3,400 lb weight of car compresses the springs into the higher rates when static while allowing more loaded travel in rebound than a short stiff spring which simply extends fully under wheel droop and is under no load rattling around.

jim, i really like the eibachs and they improve the ride substantialy to the point of making the car into a real sportscar however i have had them bottom out a couple of times and am left with the feeling often in high speed runs of wanting something stiffer, especialy for the front end. having said that i also think that if i get what i want i wont enjoy driving in the rain quite as much, or over bumps at all. i would be putting this uprated combo into my SE which dosent get driven as much as the auto.

extrapolating from the eibach rates, 600 on the front would be a noticeable difference as would 400 in the rear. i think mark kibbort recomends running regular front springs in the rear and uprating the fronts to around the 600 mark.
