A: Correct. or someone has tried to convert the cat car to non-cat

QUOTE: "Also what about the yellow Connector?"
A: I can't see too well from the picture, is it a circular plug and socket ? With 3 pins ?

The hot wiring of the fuel pump was to compensate for one of the L H brain failure modes . The LH is therefore defective. Highly likely that the failure has progressed to other symptoms.

Unhappy I think it is the Brain (Both)

Yellow connector - "is it a circular plug and socket ? With 3 pins ?" ,Yes.

Did a bit of work in the car today, changed the Ignition control modules, (2nos NEW)Why?
I broke the old ones when trying to remove them for cleaning their contacts,it was stuck so bad.
It started right up and settled into a smooth idle for about 15 sec and then it started to run very badly (4 cyl mode?) had to hit the acclerator to keep it running.
I shut it down and i smelled raw gas from the exaust.

Now i am convinced that it is a brain failure

I am thinking of rebuilding the LH and EZK,have already got info from Rich.

Anyone has a Schematic for the LH controller? It is available in http://www.928s4.com/, saw it on a cached page in Google but could not download it,think that the site is down. Will make intresting reading.

John (and I'm assuming Rich, also) - please post your suggestions to folks' problems within the forum topic, rather than PM'ing or emailing the person directly. This way we have that information contained within the archives to draw from in the future.

Thanks for your consideration.

The EZK ignition brains very, very rarely ever fail. I know because I have lots of EZK brains on the shelf .

Get the lingo straight there, Speake!

Randy,

Murarie's posts actually started on another list and then he moved to Rennlist

Long distance diagnostics is very difficult. I emailed Murarie some detailed diagnostic suggestions that are in the Rennlist archives. Murarie has done a great job of checking off items. He even checked for thrust bearing problems. Many people jump suspecting modules when simple and less expensive things should be checked first. If there were more than three 928s in India, it would be easy to do some module swapping which often shows the offending item.

One suggestion that I made, based upon his unique symptoms, was to inspect and replace the engine speed sensor (impulse sender). If the EZK doesn't see a good engine speed signal the whole system dies. It is a 944 part so it may be a much easier part to find in India (or elsewhere).

Lightbulb New Idea!

After Rich suggested to have a look at the impulse sensor ,i did a bit of reserch on the impulse sender and found out that it is a passive sensor and the only failure mode is it can "Saturate" ie put out too much voltage when the magnetic charge on it goes out of spec.

So i removed it and refitted it raised about 1.5 mm by inserting a washer between the sensor and the Crank housing.

Now the point of cutting out is raised to about 4500 RPM ,so i orderd a new sensor from a local dealer of imported car parts, hope to get it in a weeks time.

Will keep posting other small problems i have.

Also i got the car running properly,i posted it was running in 4cyl mode.
It turned out to be a loose coil wire.

Question Update!

I now know that PO has changed the speedo.

Can any bad connections to the tach be responsible for my ignition cut outs?

Still waiting for my "Impulse sender" from my parts store.

Angry New Impulse Sender and.....

I got a new Impulse Sender from 928intl (Very Quick!)

Fixed it,now the car started only in some 3 or 4 attempts with some gas and ran very roughly below 1000 RPM,smoothes out after 1000RPM,But did not idle.
Also Both Fans started running in full power immediately on turning the Key to the Acc position.

I also heard a screeching sound like a belt slipping,so i stopped the car immediately.

I checked all accessory belts and all are OK,

Is it the T belt?
I am removing the cover to check out.

Now i could not check if a new Impulse sender solved my previous problem.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Murarie.

Glad to hear it is now running better. Idle problems can be caused by several things
- vacuum leaks
- stuck idle speed regulator
- spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor caps etc.
- stale/bad gas
- dieing LH controller

Also Both Fans started running in full power immediately on turning the Key to the Acc position

>> If the air conditioning is turned on, the fans run at top speed

I also heard a screeching sound like a belt slipping, so i stopped the car immediately.

I am removing the cover to check out.

>> screeching sounds are not good!!! I hope it isn't the cam belt.

Now i could not check if a new Impulse sender solved my previous problem.

You are closer. Fix that screeching sound. Next, spray WD40 into the hose for the idle speed regulator. Good luck, you're getting closer.

A screeching belt is a smooth belt slipping. I don't see how the toothed timing belt could "screech".
