Hinged Wing on E-Bay

I know what happens to the wing at speed in a straight line. Mine was left unclipped inadvertently once, and at 140mph it popped down into place. I'm sure we could figure out the downforce required, but I think it is interesting that at 140 almost exactly, the downforce overcame the resistance of the wing clips and popped it into place.

Heinrich OK so if you place a plastic bucket on the rear wing and slowly pour water into it until the wing snaps down. You can the weigh the bucket and water to see just exactly how much downforce is generated at 140 mph .

True Prof Jim, but I have never cared too much ... interesting I guess .... Ron, at 140 I heard a major CLUNK and hit the stompers so hard my front teeth moved forward an inch. Major fright

Jim,
Unqualified drivers should not drive the S4 with folding rear wing. If they spin, they will possibly ruin the spoiler at high speeds.....!
I have folding wing, ans similar experience to Heinrich at the triple digits after a carwash attendant didn't click it in place.... Thought I broke the diff or something when it snapped..
Makes cleaning the rear glass easier though....

It would perhaps make it more clear how much down force the wing generates and answer some of the questions about what the S-4 rear spoiler actually does.

Jim,
I think with the wing in the factory position, it does not generate any downforce.. However, per Mark Kibort, his extenders and a 10-11 degree angle, he claims 80lbs or so at 80mph... It was on another thread last week... I think I want to get some extenders for mine, and ill examine MK's up close this weekend at Laguna before cutting anything....

Didn't Al Segundo come across the problem of the wing flipping up in reverse? I recall his 6 speed Weissach edition had a prototype flip up wing which eventually found it's way on the early S4. Something about being in the Mask Race (drag racing in reverse) semi-finals south of the border, and with a four car length lead (the 928 is more aerodynamic going backward than forward) the wing flipped up costing him the lead and the race.
I'll have to double check with Herr Nandez about the details....

Just so ya know, Rosy has the hinged wing, and yes, the wing has "popped" down on me as well, at quite a bit less than three digits! Yes, it sure makes cleaning the rear window easier, as well as the bottom of the wing.
I'd have to say, the detents on my wing are quite stiff, I actually have to jerk the wing up slightly, to get it past the detents.....
I'm gonna start looking in the manuals, but does anyone know where the fuel pressure regulator is? I've seen the FPR, and the VFPR talked about, but I don't remember anyone mentioning where it is located.....
