Default Power Steering Hose Repair In Houston

Has anyone had any luck getting power steering hoses rebuilt in Houston?? I recently took mine to Pirtek and was told they no longer work on those types of hoses. The guy there continued on to tell me that there was just too much labor and not enough profit in rebuilding those hoses and that he would be surprised if anyone would work on them.

Just wondering if by chance anyone out there has had any luck finding someone to work on these hoses in Houston. Thanks for the help.

Are the genuine articles that pricey? I had mine rebuilt , and they made a 3 piece unit - hose with banjo at the rack, male nut brazed onto steel pipe at each end, another hose part at other end going into pump - but I have connections in the trade, and not in TX either.

Only the pressure hose is a little pricey. Right around $195 US. I was hoping to save a few dollars and get it repaired or rebuilt. Just not having any luck finding anyone locally. I've heard of people doing this so I was pursuing this avenue before opening up the wallet to buy new ones.

jpitman2,

Did your rebuilder re-incorporate the restrictor (the inline fitting at the shock tower) in the pressure hose? If not, any significant pump noise?

I am considering using aeroquip hoses/fittings and I'm wondering if the restrictor can be ditched on our cars.

Didn't Mark (MBMB) have his rebuilt locally. I think he had a thread about that a couple of months ago. Also, I think there was a recent thread about a $50 dollar replacement hose from NAPA.

NAPA p/n 7-2564 for early cars, p/n 7-2565 for late models - pressure PS hose with line restrictor included ~$50-60: look up @ napa.com ....

Yeah, Mark did have some hoses rebuilt at Pirtek in fact. Can't remember if they were power steering hoses or not. Thats why I initially went there and was rather surprised when they told me they don't work on my type of hose. Oh well, if NAPA has a $50 replacement, that will do just fine!! Off to NAPA.com. Thanks for the help

Yes, my rebuild included the restrictor, so I havent had any noises.
