I'm out.

I'm out.
I've had it. I can't keep the car any more. The car is too old, and has too much defered maintance for me to keep going reliably as my sole provider of transportation. I won't opperate two cars at this point in my life. It is a great toy, and a whole lought of fun to work on, but thats that.
I'm going to fix what ever is leaking and causeing the lack of power, and everything else on my imediate list. After that, I'm accpeting the best offer. I'm going to be asking 3,500, negotiable. If need be, a salvage yard is going to get another 928.
And to be honest, maybe that is where the car should have been in the first place.
I know I was just given a member ship. I will be paying whom ever I need to. I desire to keep the membership, and will own a 928, or one of the 924/944 series in the future. I hate to see this one go, to be honest. I've never had more fun with something that wasn't alive. But that is the way things go.
Thanks.

That's really too bad, VU... I hope that doesn't mean you won't stop in occasionally. Personally I think you may be moving the wrong lady out, but then that's really none of my business. Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

No. You can't do this ... really, just think about it. 3500 bucks is so little, just keep her and if you have to, buy something else. I understand what you're saying, deferred service is a KILLER. But Viribus, you love that car. Trust me, I have done it and I am still sorry. Please reconsider.
Best advice: .... get the car running. Just running. And then start driving her. Period. Forget all the extra stuff fir now. Easy to do ..... make her run reliably.

Sorry V. I can sympathize totally. I think the biggest problem is that they are not being driven and enjoyed enough. I curse the ******* previous owners who let this happen to such a fine auto. Man it aint right.

Viribus: We will miss you - but I hope it won't come to that!
And if you really, really feel that the car is not worth fixing and keeping - why would it be worth that for somebody else? Why spend all the time, money and effort to fix a "lost case" and then get next to nothing for it? Wouldn't it be better for you then to dismantle it and sell it in pieces? That would almost make you enough money to get into a much better shark. Think about it!

Put your membership to good use - and use it, regardless of what you decide to do with this particular car: keep your hand in and experience up, for tomorrow ......

Issues.
1. The car has way too much defered maintance to be a reliable daily car. I can thank the POs and myself for this. This is really the sole reason I'm getting rid of her. If I had, or could opperate two vehicals, I would keep the 928 unquestionably. However, I can not do so.
2. I am in need of something with a "bed" on it. The 928 doesn't suffice. I would need something like a Ford Ranger, Chevy S10.
3. I don't have the space to part a car out. I have exactly one parking spot.
4. If I can sell the car for 3,500 I will be breaking even on this purchace. If I sell it to another rennlist member, I would not feel right without repairing at least some of the issues. If I trade it in, or scrap it, I won't care.

Nicole is 100% right. I recommend you calculate 3500 minus (repairs you would have made) = sale price for Rennlister-first-taker. So, sounds as if you'll be dumping at least 1,500 dollars, which brings sale price to 2k. Do it and be free then. But to go and do the exact work that has made you sell the car ... counterintuitive. [edited ... ahem, mah math-a-maddicks on a erlee mernin aint 2 gud]

V - you will be missed.
As I recall - you are a young man who is a full time student. The financial pressures of this DO make it tough to continue to put $$ into the car.
DO NOT - DO NOT - DO NOT - send her to a local salvage yard....you won't get squat. Post pics here - SOMEONE on the list (maybe even me....) will buy that car! I also agree with Nocole and others - IF you are getting out - don't sink more $$ in her, as you will not get your money back - sell her cheap and be done.

I think I'll still be around. I've got the bug you know.
But things being what they are, there is no way I can justify keeping the car any longer.
Don't worry, in 2 years, I'll be looking for another one, and have money to spend!
