Question Cylinder Head Removal

Ok. I have safely removed all of the 6mm hex bolts without stripping a single one. The cam tower came off easily after that. I have removed the headers, and anything else bolted to the passenger cyl head. I also have removed the nuts from the ten head bolts. I went to pull the pass cyl head and....nothing! It wont budge! Is there anything I'm missing? How hard should I have to pull?

You may need to separate the head from the block with gentle persuasion. Got a pry bar?

Watch the prybar method. I recommend a large rubber mallet. Shock it a few times and it should pop right off.

Good luck

Did you remove the water bypass housing?

Also I take it you drained the cooling system, including the block before attempting? Otherwise you will at least make a big mess with coolant in everything. There's a coolant drain plug on the side of the block in case that answer is no ;-)

Did you remove the air pump tubing that goes into the back of the head?

Sharp wood chisel. Just be sure to not gouge the head. Doing it on a corner is safer.

Yeah, I removed the air tube and the thing that mounts to the same hole as the coolant thing below the oil sending unit except on the opposite side. I have already drained the block. I'll try the rubber mallet and see how that works.
I must say that after getting to this stage of the gasket job with the engine in the car, I think that the biggest problem I had was moving the (copper?) a/c lines out of the so that I could lift the cam cover off. To get the hex bolts off I used a long Allen wrench in combination with a Vise Grip wrench. The clearance was doable. I Think it is taking me longer than it would take other people since I am taking my time to disassemble, clean and label most everything. This sure has been a learning process though. Luckily no major mishaps so far...<Knocks on wood>. It seems to me that the engine was taken care of before the most recent p.o. had it. Thanks for your help everyone!

Got mine off with a lenght of dowel rod and hammer by tapping up on the 20 mm blocks on the front of the head.
