I still don't understand why 'we' think this was such a 'good deal'. General condition unkown (Oh yeah, its shiny). Mechanical condition unknown (It starts?) This car could easily need 5-10K invested to make it reliable and/or safe, or no investment at all for 2 years.

I guess if you simply planned on flipping the car you might be able to profit on it by transferring the problems to the next owner, but again, I just don't see how anyone can draw a conclusion about a car without knowing that much about it.

Low-miler, why not hold off with the 'I told you so's' until you actually know something about the car and how well it really holds up. I would be curious to see. I'm not saying that this wasn't a good deal, I'm just saying that YOU DON'T KNOW (yet).

Just my opinion, if you ask my girlfriend, I'm probably wrong...

You've done it now........there is gonna be a "I tol' you that I tol' you" thread....Must be planting season or something, lotta Bovine Scattology being spread on the 'List lately. BTW, I tried your logic on Todd, his ears flopped over......

I suspect I am the cynical one, who cost "someone" a bunch of money, because I am "negative"...........Only facinating thing about this thread is the dynamics of the polarization, oh yeah, and the self aggrandizing thread title....

What the hell ever happened to intellectual honesty.....

That means my first 928s glossy black paint must have been the cheap kind. Because it started peeling from the window trim and rear quarter panel trim area. And the other two cars had cheap paint, too. Yeah, right!

I used Dupont Chromabase paint.. Color matched to the factory color but i think its a little darker. My dad says one fender was lighter than the other but, i cant tell at all so he didnt redo it. My 550$ of paint supplys. This money was for the paint and clear. I have half a gallon of clear on my car. I can buff it as much as i want.
Good for you!

The paint job on my car would have cost 3000$+.... It wasnt taken apart. Thats crap that you have to take a car apart to paint it. A little info, its a scam they really wont take it apart just tell you they did unless you watch them everyday...
I doubt that a paint shop that makes such false promises can stay in business for very long. And it would be very easy to prove that they were cheating...

You know, I worked in the office of an auto body and paint company that also had a Renault dealership. I was out in the paint shop gazillions of times, every day. I can tell you that EVERY car that was painted had the appropriate trim taken off.

When I prepped my own car for painting (yep - I did that myself, under some instructions from the painters) I took all the trim off also. THAT paint sill looked like new 10 years and two owners later.

It does take some extra time and money to do things right. Wait a few years until moisture gets in under your paint where the masking tape used to be...

People get lucky on occasion, but you never know when it's going to happen. I prefer to do things right or not at all - everything inbetween is a waste of time and money.

The owner of the body shop that I used when my 90 S4 was rear ended stated the following.

'It is a Porsche. I will not paint a bumber on a Porsche without removing it from the car first.'

When I heard him say that, I knew that I had the man for the job.

Appropriate trim = emblems.... Ive been around painting and bodywork since i was a little kid. Im almost 24 now. I can do bodywork on a car. The right way. Ive seen things done to cars that would amaze you.

Here is an example he needed a quater panel for this ford car once, the people kept sending the wrong one. My dad takes a hood and cuts the metal out and welds it into the car. The owner thinks he has a new quater panel. No waves or anything in the bodywork.

Yes Cheap Paint will peel. It will not last. Moisture wont get under my paint where the masking tape used to be.... Because where the tape was there is no paint..

Those areas your talking about the paint peeling, lazy people dont sand those areas well so it has nothing to stick too....

The guy wouldn't even send me a picture of the engine; that didn't exactly bowl me over.

Besides, who's to say he didn't plan on holding off on replies to his Autotrader ad until the eBay auction is over???

This whole topic is academic at best and probably just a moot point.

Not even on topic anymore.

He had placed the Autotrader ad one day before the Ebay thing. I know he would have sold it for between $8500-$9500 off of Autotrader.

Hell, unless someone on this site buys it now, we'll never really know if it was a gem or junk.

Could have been a great buy though if it was a nice car.
