Thumbs up Weissach rescue + restoration: pics

My crazy paint guy did an excellent job on the W; bondo on the rear driver's side, a dent on the pass side front fender and a lot of small areas needing attention. It looks great now. Pay no attention to the muffler end pipe, it was tacked there temporarily. I will do a custom cat-less system at a hot rod shop, or a Borla cat back stainless.
Hey, it's a start.
p.s. the first pic is "before"

It looks great! How do they blend paint like that? Or was the whole car painted? Beautiful car!

Blending paint is a skill and art. I only hoped the paint would match the existing paint. The original paint was in pretty good shape, and didn't seem faded- so I wanted to keep as much of the original paint as possible. Mostly I didn't want to have the car look like it had been painted. My next step is to find a good place to wet sand and buff. Then the orange peel will be gone and everything will look more like 1982.

Regards,
You know, I've talked to two body shop owners (separately) who've mentioned their best paint guys were always drunks. Weird.

Hey Carl,
I'm so happy that you rescued that Weissach Ed Shark....you've done right by her. The paintwork is beautiful....kudos on your efforts. Thanks for keeping me/us updated on your work.

That paint guy has made both my 928s beautiful again, and they don't look like they have been painted. My '89 is looking nice. It feels very righteous to restore 2 of the best cars ever made by P to their former glory.
I am in the middle of installing some bilstein/eibach on the '89; rear is done now the front. Lot of work, but pretty straight forward.

Carl,
Bondo? BONDO!
Was his last name Schibe?
I'm sorry Carl, but it is my iron-clad duty to enforce the Weissach owners by-laws.
Please remove and remit all 928 Weissach window trim, chrome headlight bezels, front/rear light trim - don't forget the damn screws -, connect the suspect octane fuel lead, and take a ball-peen hammer -preferably of German origins-to the LCU. I will leave the loaded Luger on your desk.
Please! No dwadling, do the right thing...
Actually, a save is a save in my book we'll sweat the small stuff at a later date.
I've mentioned this before... shine that puppy up and leave her at the curb on a sunny Saturday - east to west (longitudinal) exposure is best- and enjoy the the apparent paint change. Sharp mustard/gold to a soft gold in the evening, the wheels change with it. It's a trip with no drugs involved.
The 928 of any color or edition is just to fine a car -and a good looking one at that- to let fall by the wayside.
You have my respect for creeping out on the limb to save her.
Say! If you have a spare $300.00 put a new high flow cat, a thrush-cylinder type- resonator(tucks up in the tunnel out of sight) and a 15 inch flat Flowmaster. This will give you a very nice sounding -not NASCAR- exhaust with an improved low end. You'll like the sound a 4.5L can make without being obnoxious or wearing on a long trip.
How's the leather?
What month was your Weissach born -paint data plate -?
BTW
I put Pattycakes , my Weissach, under Hagerty's Collector Insurance.
$220.00 a year for full coverage Comprehensive- fire theft... $250 deductible for collision, $100 for everything else...everything with an agreed replacement value of 10K IN WRITING! They are fairly flexible and the rates will vary with yearly mileage totals but to me the value is there. I was paying a lot more for just liabilty ... check em' out, your local carrier should be able to hook you up.

Default Small world!

Just last night I get into a conversation with a former 928er I've talked to before at a local eaterie, and he knows this Weissach! The former owner was a friend of his, and died of liver failure 5 years ago. He had driven the car, and knew some of it's history. It was always garaged and only taken out on nice days and dealer serviced for everything. He is going to make a few phone calls also to track down the luggage. One strange thing is that the original buyer passed the car to his son of the same name (title never was changed because the name was the same), and the owner I bought it from had retitled the car in his son's name (the same as his name also). So there might have been only 2 titles for this car since new. Trivia??
Small world anyways.

Thumbs up

I tracked down the friend of the first owner who knew the car well and had driven it quite a bit. He told me where it had been serviced (another local Porsche dealer) and he is going to track down the luggage for me. That dealer had NO records at all for the car. They looked under name and vin#; nothing. I'm starting to think dealers suck.

Today I'm doing shocks (new Boges transplanted from the '89) and a little more cleaning- with very little work the wheel wells look pretty good, and it's nice to have clean and lubed spring collar adjusters to do ride height later. Everything that needed to come apart was in good shape.

Thanks, Andy. IF and WHEN I catch up with the luggage, that will be better than sex!
I also have a stainless borla cat-back coming soon.

The only substitute I found for sex is sitting in a showroom at Newport Auto Center in Newport, CA with only 1300 miles, 460 HP and a GT2 emblem on the the beautiful arctic silver paint....

I want a 996 GT2 sooo bad I can dream of it every night....if that makes sense

Andy
