Also never trust a person without an avatar.
Never heard that one before. The cynic in me felt that way, but I'd never vocalized it. I do lend more credence to avatars that impart something about that person, which really has no value in logical terms, but it helps to learn about people a bit.

low miler's blanket critcism of this list is a perfect demonstration of the cynicsm he claims to detest so highly. Sounds like he's lonely, perhaps because of a rectocranial inversion. I may be wrong...but it does get lonely when you have your head up your ***, trust me. Thankfully I'm in remission, but once a person is afflicted, it can flare up years down the road with little warning.

I view the comments made more as advice than criticism. Then again, I have a very thick skin and don't take offence to much. Anyway, the guy who wants to can always say 'What the Puck' and roll the dice. The guy who is less knowledgable about these cars might still do that, or might take a step back, arrange for a PPI, or move on to a more virgin example. In either case, each party is well served because they had more opinions/advice/comments/information at their disposal to make their decision.

It is always buyer beware when purchasing a used car, Rennlist is great for helping those who don't always know what to beware of.

Low miler.
For the record, I'm on your side 100%. Looks to me like you tried to do a solid for some "friends" and got your nards handed to you. I guess you were supposed to fly out and inspect the car before allowing someone else to "look into" it. Its just that I've been in your position (sort of) on this board and you just can't win. Also, I've been to Willhoit's before and his cars are beautiful. He doesn't deal in junk as best as I can tell. His prices are high, but his cars are nice. Why can't we all just keep our happy thoughts?

Todd, I didn't see any reason for anyone to be upset, your post was appropriate originally and there was some feedback, nothing personal that I saw. HOWEVER:

I have been known to blow my top .... so I don't fault you there. Look at all the replies here. Friendly, to the point ..... I still see no problems. Agreed with Mark, no need for told-u-so's .... we saw the car, looked it over, and personally I didn't think the low miles justified the price, and I didn't even know about the paint job or see the pic.

But then again I own 2 928's and a 911. I have no need for another 928, unless it is a steal or exceptionally unique. I think many here are in the same position. Yes that car is worth more than 10k. Because of its low miles it deserves to be lovingly stripped and repainted. But I ain't gonna do it

Okay, I'd like to re-title my thread "Great deal on a low mileage S4! Buy it now for $8500, or buy it a week later for $15,000!"................How's that?

And as far as the re-paint thingy goes, I've seen bright sunlight do some pretty weird things to a picture. If your talking about the beading being painted red on the front bumper, I wouldn't count on that as being factual.

And a dirty front spoiler, come on, I could have that thing washed and shined up to look like new in 5 minutes.

I'm going to have this guy send me some close ups of the front bumper. I'm kinda curious too!

I'll get back with you!

Nicole,
I live in Boise, Idaho and have seen it first hand. I was hoping no one else had seen it. The car is clean. very clean. I waited to see what his ebay add would bring. It open at 18500 and closed with no bids. Both the dealer and the seller know they have a great car, but in boise there is not much of a buying pool. the car would be an awsome deal for the right price. Let me know if anyone needs a place to stay or some eyes in the field. The car will be sold sooner or later. I hope someone off of rennlist gets it. if anyone has questions on it let me know.

I was gonna buy that one in Boise but I personally hate Shwartz on the 928, and I wanted a stick. Not that there's anything wrong with Swartz, or auto, I just don't like it. Jeez, here I am being PC. Anyway, it sounded like a good deal. The car was on a dealer lot back in June, and the price was about $17k as I recall.

As for the red/brown '87. Now that I am an owner, I would love to see the prices going through the roof! Keep hyping those cars lm, we'll get these prices back up to the 20s somehow. I haven't done any further research on it. Hope it's a good chassis. Can't tell until seen/driven.

No doubt you could. It just makes me wonder what the car really looked like before Earl Scheibe did his drunken after-hours hosedown with red paint.

The red painted bumper beading thingy must really be catching on!

Here's some pictures of that '95 GTS on Ebay right now with only 25,000 miles on it.

I know it can't be the sunlight................it's just got to be an option! This one has the front and rear painted beading option.

Very unique!

Jumping in late here, but
Is the point: We all had a chance and blew or someone is going to overpay for a 928 ?

low-
that was just an option on the GTS cars. EVERYONE knows you couldn't get the S4 with body colored beading. It MUST be the work of a drunken Earl Scheibe employee (or a security guard). You must think we are stoopid!

I'm telling you, I've been there and you cannot win!

ps- the first part of this post is sarcasm, before someone accuses me of being dishonest.

I don't think that you can tell from the pic if it has been painted or not.

If you haven't seen one in person with the painted bumper beading or the painted windshield washer or headlight washer nozzles let me tell you, it looks like hell. What it usually also means is that if you look around, you will see other overspray. Why? Because if the guy doesn't take the time to remove the bumper to paint, or even take the teeniest bit of time to tape it off (the bumper beading in this example) if removing the bumper is too much hassle, what does that tell you about his attention to detail / quality?

Due to the high sensitivity on this post let me be clear. I am not flaming. I am just stating my opinion. Since it is just an opinion, it can be neither right nor wrong and it can be either right or wrong. It can even be right and wrong at the same time. It all depends on you, whoever you might be.

Todd,

Good to see you're getting your sense of humor back. BTW, it's not just the bumper beading. The washer nozzles, mirror gaskets, lock tumblers, and part of the windshield trim also seem to have escaped the indignity of having masking tape applied during the painting process.
