1st run: 145 mph in my project '84. Not bad for a 20 year old car.

140 in the GT (haven't put the trays back on underneath, so I'm not pushing the limit yet).

159 (by the speedo) in the E55. That's where the limiter kicks in, but with fine throttle control you can hold it there as long as you like, which is probably much longer than you should.

State troopers, incidentally, are tenacious with a capital "T." And drivers of other cars on I-45 between Dallas and Houston calls in to DPS if you blow by them at more than twice the legal limit. No sensayuma.

All as told to me by a little bird, of course.

As your lawyer I advise you to pull over immediately when those blue lights come on behind you. Running from the law is dangerous, illegal, and just plain wrong. Unless you have a freshly-murdered corpse and a couple of kilos of coke in your passenger compartment. In which case you'd better have me on speed-dial.

the got the ole Holbert car at 182mph, and it was stock. (nardo italy, 1986) then, it only went to 172mph at the salt flats with al Holbert at the wheel. pretty amazing cars!!
Ill get some interesting top speed numbers at road america. (in another S4) should be fast I imagine!!

Mark,

Did you read the explanation (I think it was in Pano) re why he could only get it up to 172? They had skinny tires on it, and the rears were slipping in the salt. They wanted to do the run again with wider (normal) tires, but they didn't have any.

The Salt Flats at Bonneville wide tires tend to float on the loose salt ,narrow tires work better BUT there is always some slip at speed . If you have ever driven fast on gravel roads you know the feeling so I am told.

the black SE did 170mph without much fuss, very early in the morning as the sun was coming up and id just put the lights to rest. didnt hold it there for very long as the road was getting shorter very quickly.

125 on the back straight at VIR and 130 on the front "straight". Then hard on the brakes. That was plenty exciting.

Question on the salt...

Would it work well to use skinny tires, with snow traction spikes?
