How much does the bail service cost? How much a California ticket for over 100mph? Maybe I don't want to know...

I bird flew in my window and answered your question Nicole: 10% of the bail amount to the bondsman. At least that's the amount it was to the best of the bird's recollection. At the booking desk you will be given an amount which will probably be much less than the amount the judge will set if you stay in until arraignment. It is not adviseable to stay in jail, and you should make every effort to get out asap. People slip and fall in the shower in jail. Some never make it out. Carry an unemcumbered credit card. At least that's what the bird advised me.

There was a story going around that the factory made 4 928 CS protypes and gave them to Porsche racing drivers (including one to david bell). The drivers complained that they kept hitting the rev limiter in 5th (185mph) on german autobahns and so could the factory fix the overall gearing.

145 - tried 125, a couple weeks later after a wheel balance, tried 135, 2 new tires and another complete balance 145. Of course, I was just checking the wheel balances. My tire shop told me that they would guarantee the balance to as fast as the car would go and would keep rebalancing until it was perfect.
"So officer, it was just to check out the wheel balance, I really didn't want to have to go that fast".

Marc,

As you know, I'd have to change the gearing in my car to go
over 200 mph, plus put in a roll cage, fuel cell, fire suppression
system, and a few more ponies. It'd be easier just to borrow your
car

Some additional background ...."Have you ever wondered how restrictive a NASCAR restrictor plate is? Well Rusty Wallace decided to toss his and find out. On June 9, at Alabama International Speedway in Talladega, wallace hit a trap speed of 228 mph in his Miller Lite Dodge. "We hit 228 at the end of the straightaway," he said. Wallace's top lap speed was 216.306 and was 25 to 30 mph faster than a restrictor plate. "It was a helluva deal that I certainly will remember for the rest of my life," Wallace added. "We'd all been wondering what it would feel like to run at Talladega again without the plates, and now I know. I'll bet we could be running speeds up to 235 without the plates if we spent time doing some tweaking. But I'll tell you this - there's no way we could be out there racing at those speeds. It was neat to be out there running that fast by myself, but it would be insane to think we could have a pack of cars out there doing that." The officially recognized Talladega track record is Bill Elliott's 212.809 mph set in a qualifying run in 1987."..... Pretty impressive to hit 228 MPH on an oval track. It would also seem to indicate to me that any of the top NASCAR teams if they wanted to could do quite well in the open road events. But when they get about $50,000 just for starting a Nascar race , why would they bother.

Jim,

Two of the three cars that did over 200 mph in an ORR event this year were NASCAR cars, so they are out here with us:

Wasn't RJ Gottleib's engine a retired Nascar engine, with the restrictor plate removed?

162mph on an on ramp, (and only 176 max) on the bike. 928 only 145 so far. Oh well...
