140ish in my old car an '85 S. Been 165 indicated in my old 5sp S4 more than a few times. The new to me auto S4 has only been up to 135 where the out of balance left front became very irritating.

I had a '82 model in '84 and decided to see how fast it would go. I was on a flat farm to market road straight and clear to the horizon. There was some violent shaking in the front end between 70 and 90 but then smoothed out. Got it up to a little over 145. As I slowed the shaking reappeared between 90 and 70 and then smoothed out. A few days later I was washing the car and happened to feel behind the left front tire and discovered a lump about like a goose egg in the side wall. I had discovered the source of vibration. Thank you gawd....

If you are clocked over 100 while racing, or eluding, or being really reckless, they will probably take you in.
But if you are out in the middle of nowhere, with no other cars around, and you are just "speeding",
and you seem reasonable, they will probably just give you a lecture and a ticket...

No more than ~120 mph in a 928. But I have no doubt I will someday get to experience the beast at speed.
But

* (Most memorable) 146 bone-stock '02 540i (Damn the previous 5er is one helluva wonderful car. If BMW didn't govern US top speed there'd be plenty of room left, too! I can't even imagine the M5.)
* 132 with a slight tailwind and miles of straight empty road in my '87 GTI 16v
* 128 regularly in Audi 200
* 130 occasionally in Alfa GTV6
* 225 km/h (140 mph) M-B S420 on the A5 between Darmstadt and Stuttgart
Passenger
* 260 km/h (162 mph) in Maybach 57 on the A8 between Stuttgart & Munich as rear seat passenger, watching a DVD in the rear entertainment system nonetheless

210 verified miles per hour, wll over 20+ times at over 200 mph..sometimes for two or three minutes at a time!
All on pump gas, 91 or less, and driving to and from the event!
George...you next in the 200 mph club?
Yea, we do get a bit drowsy...noting like the thrill of death to keep your juices pumping hard!
The real sad thing is that The White Car is now capable of over 231 or so....

Nicole (and all the rest):
Never fear. Just remember this number: 1-800-300 BAIL. Have you out in a jiffy. Carry cash sufficient to buy candy and other edibles until bail arrives; the purchases are credited against your stash which is held for you. Don't ask me how I know.

Another suggestion which may work; at least it worked for a certain well known Porsche machinist who swears it actually happened.
He is stopped for speeding, he goes to court and pleads NG. The judge asks how he can prove he wasn't speeding. He replies that he was on his way to his mother-in-law's house. The judge laughs and said no one would speed to get to a place like that, so he must be innocent. Case was dismissed.
