It looks quite amazing up close, you can see a couple waves, where I stopped with the bondo and did not feather it down smooth enough....I finished with 300 grit, and I read 600 is what the finish sanding should be, but it really looks quite amazing. Not bad at all for my first one. I have two other cars that need this, and (3) pods that need it....the pod is next...hopefully by the time I get to #30’s dash, I’ll be better at it!

cant tell where any cracks were, you see no lines or anything....I’m pretty stunned, as I didn’t think I could do this good a job!

Have 2 coats of “Landau Black” on it...wet in the pic

3rd coat tomorrow, then she gets moved to corner while I work on the Pod...still amazed how good this turned out. I hope that fiberglass bondo holds

It’s sooo much work, but so satisfying....I am fortunate enough to have been able to have a conditioned indoor space to do this, as I made a helluva mess...I have a lot to clean up, but the dash and the material were all at the same temp, room at 72, and 40% humidity....the bondo dust covered everything, but our basement is just storage and my crap, so not too big a deal.

Haha, I think you would get much more satisfaction if you tried it yourself, lol.

i dunno, let’s see how this and the pod turn out. I should probably get a few roached dashes and practice! It’s not really very fun....

it looks so good tho’ I have a fear that it will crumble or fall apart as soon as I try to reinstall it!

Hmm, good thing my basement is unfinished....

1st, bondo makes one hell of a mess....didn’t realize the texture paint overspray would flash off and turn to dust.....sweeps up easy enough tho’

Let us know how it goes back on! Can you give another summary (on your final thread closing post) of what products you used for the job?

again, this is awesome!

I sure will. Started on the Pod this morning....I don’t have a lot of free time, but I will try to update frequently.

I bet you don’t glob as much fiberglass on this time. That stuff is hard to sand as you found out.

Small update. Pod is sanded and wiped down with mineral spirits. Once dry, I’ll try to get 1st coat of bondo glass on it this evening.

Having some tough times at work, and worrying and stressing way too much (I have suffered from depression before, fyi) I felt that some bondo fumes and 928 therapy was in order, so started the pod. Was only going to fill the cracks tonight, but decided to just go ahead and coat the entire top, as originally planned, feathering it over to the sides. Now I can start sanding tomorrow night, Might be able to skim coat on Saturday...
