S4 fuse box question

S4 fuse box question
I know that this is a simple question, but I have been unable to successfully unplug the connectors in the bottom of the fuse and relay box in the passengers foot well of an 89 S4. There is a plastic clip on the top of the connectors which can easily be released, however, there is a tab on the bottom of each connector which prevents it from being unpluged. What is the best method of unplugging these connectors? Does the fuse box have to be dismantled? Thanks.

It shouldn't have to be dismantled. I'm not sure exactly how the later connectors work, but IIRC from looking through misc fuse panels there is a simple catch. I don't remember whether it's the sort that needs to be squeezed or if a tool is required. If you can get in there and get a good look with a dental mirror and a strong light, it should be apparent how it comes out.

The early cars are straight pull off connectors: The S4 has a single locking tab on the top right - just lift. The whole operation is far easier if you remove the 2x10mm nuts and the wood trim on the bottom of the door assembly - far more finger space available ...

Discovered the method to unplug the electrical connectors on the bottom of the electrical center panel in an 89 S4. There is a red tab located in the bottom center of the panel, when this is pulled out it uncovers the bottom tab on the connectors. On the top of each connector is a latching tab which can easily be unhooked so the connector can be unpluged.
